 
Variety is reporting that Michael Bay’s production company Platinum Dunes hope to release a remake of Friday the 13th in 2009. Four of the films have been released on Friday the 13th, which just seems like too big of a marketing gimmick to drop. And 2009 contains three Fridays that happen to fall on the 13th of the month: February, March, November. I’d assume the November date would be the target.
The project was first announced in January 2006, with production set to begin a few months later (April 2006). The project somehow fell into development hell, only to be mentioned since in speculative talk at fanboy conventions. I’m not sure accurate information on the project exists at this point, but Jonathan Liebesman (Texas Chainsaw: The Beginning) was attached to direct. Producers have said in the past that they want to make the film an R-Rated horror film set in Crystal Lake.
Bay’s production company did a good job with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, but the few projects released since (The Hitcher, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, The Amityville Horror) have pretty much sucked. And if Liebesman is involved, than I’d rather they not make a film at all. Truth be told, I’m not sure this project will even get an official greenlight if Rob Zombie’s Halloween doesn’t make a splash at the box office in August.

I just wish we could get one movie in the series named either “Thursday the 12th” or “Saturday the 14th”. Is that asking too much?
