beowulf

I just got back to our hotel from the big Beowulf footage premiere and party at Comic-Con 2007. One of the many things they showed us was this movie trailer, but in digital 3D. I’m interested in hearing what you guys think of this one because on the computer screen it looks a little flat to me. The trailer is definitely a lot cooler when it has three dimensions. I’ll have a full report of the evening’s events later, but for now you can watch the trailer for yourself after the jump.

You can watch the new trailer in High Definition on Apple.com.

this motion capture business is almost as boring as realness. i loved how it was utilized in monster house, i love monster house. this looks promising but the characters look like they’re stuck in melancholy mode where in monster house, the characters were vivacious and fun. they were so spunky and full of my love. this trailer is the fellowship of the ring shot like 28 days later. id like to see some more tits and ass from aj so i know its for me.

I have been excited about this project since I learned of Neil Gaiman’s involvment. I was then excited about the motion capture CG approach… now that the first pics and trailer are out i’m a little disappointed. Maybe it was all the time the characters in the trailer spent walking slowly, or turning to face the camera slowly, but this seems a little… slow and i dont really see anything in the trailer that makes the motion capture approach worthwhile. I’ll hold my judgement until i can some of the more fantastic elements in action, perhaps Grendel’s mother or Grendel for more than 1/2 a second.

Looks pretty good. I cant wait to see the trailer on the big screen. As much as Im in love with the book, the movie done last year was just terrible. I really hope this one makes up for it. It looks promising though.

It looks stupid. Seems like it will spend its time and budget destroying the greatness of an epic legend to create a fanboy fantasy. Are all our favorite historical hero tales going to be turned into modern effects laden, smutty, graphic novel style films? After 300 was so popular, its bound to happen.
