John RamboLionsgate has released two new photos for Sylvester Stallone’s John Rambo. I wasn’t a huge fan of the initial photos, or the horrible Cannes movie trailer, so I’ll spare you from my angry rant about why I believe this movie is going to suck. Keep in mind, I loved Rocky Balboa, so I’m not just “hating on Sly” as some people had commented on the previous post (although I feel even dumber for acknowledging a criticism that includes the slang use of “hating”). Check out the two new photos after the jump. John Rambo hits theaters next year. You have been warned. And let the comments flaming me for not being a “real man” just because I’m not hyped for another Rambo film begin…

I will do some “Sly hating”! Since when is OK to keep making sequels of previously horrible movies? I figured that Hollywood or the general public would have outlawed that by now. But no, we let Sly come back with the only two roles he knows how to do, Rocky and Rambo. And on top of that it is 10-15 years later!!! We can’t keep letting this happen! What’s next ‘Over the Top II’ or ‘The Return of Tango and Cash’!? FUBAR!

And as far as not being a “real man” because you don’t like Rambo or Rocky…thats one of the stupidest things I have ever heard! I don’t need to act like I love these crappy movies to prove my masculinity. I actually think you are more of a man because you can stand up and say “Wow those movies that I previously thought were good, really suck. Both of them are so far fetched and horrible that I can’t believe I ever liked them. Rocky can’t block a punch to save his life and Rambo mysteriously can’t be shot by hundreds of men with machine guns.”

    my two cents

oh my god i cant wait until they come out with a “TANGO & CASH II : Gabriel’s Gamble” or “OSCAR II: Mo Money”.

dude those movies were made when no one was making them. Society has changed and everyone bashes everthing if its not “realistic enough”. Its called weed, you should smoke it and watch First Blood and Cobra. The best stallone movies ever!

ps - Steven Seagal is the greatest actor in the history of greatest actors

    Oh….and “Cliffhanger 2: Everest”

Fair enough but I remember as a little tyke thinking “Why doesn’t Rocky block?”. Anyways…I still think that it is sad that Sly is coming out with these two sequels 10-15 years later. It just goes to show that he is a horrible actor and no one will sign him to a movie unless he writes, directs and produces them himself.

Take the lead, not the weed ;-)

Steven Seagal…..you don’t see ponytails like that anymore

If we’re following the logic of Stallone’s latest sequels being the full names of the titular characters (Rocky Balboa, John Rambo) I think we should all be looking forward to “Ray Tango & Gabe Cash” as well as “Marion Cobretti.” Actually, that wouldn’t work. Rocky Balboa and John Rambo are both awesome names… Who the hell thought up those other ones?

    I digress.

I think Rocky Balboa worked because it was so self-deprecating in nature. It was down to earth (compared to Rocky IV, for instance) and almost believable. It was riddled with old-man jokes, and frankly, Sly is bearing a striking resemblance to Fred Flintstone, which is eerily fascinating. I can’t really see John Rambo doing the same thing. There’s just not a whole lot of room for humor in a warzone… Unless Rambo resorts to shooting a live chicken from a compound bow, a la Charlie Sheen.

Tango and Cash would actually make quite an amusing sequel. Ray Tango would have lost all his riches, and would be working as an accountant. Cash would be happily married to Teri Hatcher, living in the suburbs and going out of his mind from boredom. Then something stupid would happen and the two would have to team up again.

Think Rush Hour, but instead of racial stereotypes, it’d be a bunch of witty banter between two once-badass sextagenarians about how old they are.

    I think I’ve got a screenplay to go write…

This Rambo picture is a majorly bad idea…then again I thought it was a bad idea to make another Rocky movie. I guess I was wrong ,but really Stallone’s look with the long hair and bandanna type thing over his head, at his age is silly. If this becomes a parody of the previous films (which I’m all for) it would be great, but pulling this film off with the seriousness he’s approaching John Rambo is going to be a mistake. He looks more like a Vietnam vet that still hasn’t come to terms that it’s over. We better hope that the director of this picture has a good reason for this in the film or we just have another Rambo movie to laugh at. Stylistically, he should have his hair short and look more mature. I think what a way to make a Rambo movie is have John as a person who’s an aging renegade hero that’s adapted to society and imprisoned by it. Just imagine if you followed Martin Sheen’s character from Apocalypse Now ten years after the war. In my mind, he’d kill himself, but what would he do if he’s alive? I can see this as a transition film from the long retired hero to the return of rebellious fighter he was. The problem with the Rambo movies is they threw logic out the window, especially in the sequels. Another Rambo film would give a filmmaker the chance to give John more logic and bring a whole lot more character study that’s missing from the series. It would also replace his goofy cartoon image. A perfect example is the sequence in UHF where Weird Al portrays Rambo by blasting a whole army with one machine gun. Honestly, do you want bury that Rambo stereotype?

I had my doubts about Rocky Balboa and I was wrong, it was a very good movie and it also makes a person think about life and changes going on in our world, to bad we can’t turn back time to the way things used to be. Yes Stallone once again is making another “CHARACTER” movie, but hey in life we are all living for second chances to make a difference. We live in a very violent and screwed up world out of control these days, so movies like this are truely needed for us people who are tired of all the crap, the world needs heros and people to look up to and Stallone is giving us that, if only in the movies.

While Stallone hasn’t shot a man in his life but has made millions with movies such as Rambo who throws helicopters of the sky with a hunting knife, I know kids who screwed up their lives and made stupid decisions thinking that Rambo may have existed in reality. Stallone is a great actor but I really like for the directors of these violent movies to reconsider what impact these movies have on people and especially on the young.

Wow! Just the number of people commenting on this film let’s me know that Sly has hit a chord with a lot of folks. Good, bad or otherwise….People will go see this film if for nothing more than nostalgia. Sly wins, us guys in their 30’s and 40’s win too! Arnold and Sly ruled the action movies of the eighties. We old timers need this dose of, excuse the pun, OVER THE TOP excitement. How many guys out there have evr held in their gut and flexed while pretending to be John Rambo? More than we’ll ever know. Like it or not, Rambo is an American Icon and the man behind this character is laughing all the way to the bank. Also, add to the mix that Sly is a born again Christian and how that information has spread through the churches and you’ve got a lot more people pulling for Rambo to kick some booty to protect the Christians that he’s helping out in the film.

    Rock on Rambo!
