Variety has an interesting article on the scheduling of the upcoming summer tentpoles for the next three years. The article claims that Sony Pictures will announce a Summer 2010 release date for the 23rd James Bond film. The next Bond film, tentatively titled Bond 22, will go into production later this year aiming for a November 7th 2008 release.
The article also says that Sony will nab a Summer 2009 release date for Green Hornet. And 2010 is starting to look a lot like this Summer: very crowded. Potentially Pirates of the Caribbean 4, Spider-Man 4, Shrek 4, and Harry Potter 7 could be just some of the big blockbuster movies filling the slate.

It should be interesting to see what dates hold up. Many studios will release dates
prematurely as a way to position themselves and anchor that date. It’s a way of saying
“I’m on this date” I dare you to come close to me.
As we saw with Pirates, Spider-Man 3 and Shrek 3, studios often challenge each other
and this could actually be detrimental to the box office performance. I think Pirates or
Spider-Man 3 would have done much better if one of them went later in July.

Second verse same as the first. Isn’t the 2010 schedule the same as, well, this year?

Spider-Man 3 was met with huge success numbers wise…but I think it clearly marked a downhill direction for the series, I can only hope and pray that for a 4th installment, they polish off a really good story, as opposed to multiple story lines patched together with mediocre dialogs and even worse melodrama….
As for the others, I can’t say where I stand exactly on Pirates, it could sink or stay afloat, but again, these huge studio productions need to stop mashing stuff together trying to outdo what their predecessor films did.
Shrek….hey, it makes money, and the Disney/Pixar combo is a maelstrom force to behold…
I like the refreshing direction the Bond movies have taken…as long as we don’t fall back into neon glowing masks and a death ray utilizing the sun, we’ll be fine…
Harry Potter, what starts with good storytelling and writing, as a base, and gets paired with a director who knows how to handle the adaptations (obviously :) ) only good can come of it.
Green Hornet…who knows, you really never know until you see it, when it comes to the inaugural release of a graphic novel’s silver screen adaptation.

Will gone? That would be fine with me…He is not the reason I go anyway.
I heard that the release date will be around 2011.
Saw Harry Potter yesterday….THAT was a disappointment. Yuck.

I don’t go to see Will, I go to see the movie as a whole because I just love
everything about it, but without Will I just don’t see the point of going.

I would love a 4th part for Pirates of the caribean, althoung I think it is a bit dificult. I also think it will be dificult to see a 4th film of Jason Bourne but it would be fantastic, the problem is that I think they might have run out of ideas.

A fourth Pirates would be awesome. Spider-Man 4 would be pretty cool except they killed off almost every villain. Isn’t Shrek a little played out. Harry Potter 7, why the rush can’t you just release Half Blood Prince first. Green Hornet would be cool. How about Hitman 2? Anybody with me on that one.

Yes I think it would be perfect to have a 4th film of pirates of the caribean but I think Spiderman is too boring with all of that love thing they have and I think Sherk is played out. Harry potter 7, they just have to finish with it although the two last films were the only ones I realy liked.

Why is tobey isn’t be a spiderman?At spiderman4?

Robb-
I’d love to see a hitman 2. Not because I was a fan of the recent shoddy, boring, lacklustre film but because I want to see it done properly in the same style as the games. The hitman needs to be an emotionless efficent killer like he is in the videogames. Admittedly you have to lose a bit of that because for a film you need dialogue, but the first film fell over because he had too much of a personality for an introductory film. Timothy Olyphant was totally miscast as agent 47 too, especially after film fans such as myself remeber him as the lame terrorist from die hard 4.0 immediately before. I wanted to see Woody Harrelson (he’s naturally bald, and wouldnt have looked ridiculous with a shaven head) in the role, or even better Viggo Mortensen. He has the recent run of violent films and team him with David Cronenborg and you’ve got real potential for a satisfying film.
