Fuck Boyle, the 28 day/week films are good, but I was far more disturbed by Hostel. Not the sequel (5/10) or Cabin Fever(4/10) , just Hostel. (8/10)

Funny that Eli Roth made it, his other two movies kinda suck and left no impact on me whatsoever. Hostel II has its moments though, I guess.

I loved trainspotting, great movie, 28 days later was ok. Boyle does not seem to understand the new wave of horror. Roth is a young master of the genre. Roth spins a tale that is smart, gory, and edge of your sit damn good!!! In these homogenized corporate times, it’s great to have a writer/director like Eli, who is not afraid of making movies that are not friday night date movies.
Hats off to Roth let the bloody good times roll!!!!!!

I thought 28 Days Later was okay, mostly because I like Cillian Murphy though. I prefer Eli Roth over Danny Boyle any day. I think it’s sad that Boyle has nothing better to than talk about how he thinks he is better, which will perhaps just make Eli retaliate with words and make Ol’ Danny Boy feel like a fool. If and when Roth chooses to say that, I will have to agree.

Hostel part 2 seemed not to be very scary and disturbed. Danny Boyle might refer to Roth’s latest
flick. But Cabin Fever is pretty good, I think.

For me, Eli Roth is more into the “exploitation” type horror. For that reason alone, I find his work to be of less substance. That doesn’t mean it’s bad. It just means that, for me, it’s not all that great. To me, none of it is scary. It is all about shock value rather than being able to actually care about what’s going on.

So it really probably boils down to a matter of what you like. Personally, I consider someone like Rob Zombie (”House of a 1,000 Corpses”, “The Devil’s Rejects”) to be in the same genre of “exploitation” violence. (His foray into “Halloween” is interesting to say the least.) So I consider Zombie and Roth very much alike in that sense.

But Eli Roth doesn’t make “good” horror movies…his “horror” movies are more like comedies…at least thats how i’ve always seen them. Im not being a Roth-Boy but I really feel that he is doing something new and fairly unique with the genre of “Gross-out” movies…and adding some humor to them.

I’ve enjoyed Danny Boyle’s films more than Roth’s and I’m a horror fan. Hostel in particular was missing something for me. It was kind of soulless. Cabin Fever had a lot more chutzpah.

Sounds like Boyle is jealous. Why attack him now… Timing must not be his thing, given his efforts on Sunshine and 28 Days Later.
