The London Times has published the first review of Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix. Leo Lewis calls the film:
“a solid, occasionally spectacular set-piece that struggles unsuccessfully to give us thrills and fun we have not already had in previous installments.”
That doesn’t sound very positive, does it? This is too bad, I’ve been really looking forward to this one. Lewis goes on to write:
“overall there is a shortage of those joyful little glimpses of the wizarding world’s furniture that punctuated and perked up the previous films.”

It kind of makes me hopeful the movie is what I want it to be. OotP is NOT a “fun” book. It isn’t about fun. It isn’t all sparkly and magical. It’s about possession and loss and coping. I would be disappointed if the movie was “fun”.

“little glimpses of the wizarding world’s furniture”?
Really? I mean, furniture. Really? The hell?

I agree with Karen, there isn’t much joy and perk to be found amidst the utter frustration and markedly increased danger Harry and the gang experience in the source material. I would like to think that it would be similarly expressed in this latest installment of the films. We are supposed to be taking the further adventures of Potter’s group much more seriously. I don’t want to see cute lil wizards dancing about exclaiming “Oh! its like magic!”
honestly…
however, if it’s a crap translation or just a poorly rewritten extension of the last sequel, then it will (yet again) disappoint the core fanbase and alienate the non-readers and kids going out to see a “fun magic romping kids movie.”
this film should be *whomping* not romping.
