 Ryan Gosling

Academy Award nominated actor Ryan Gosling (Half Nelson) has signed on to star opposite Rachel Weisz in Peter Jackson’s big screen adaptation of Alice Sebold’s bestselling book The Lovely Bones. Jeeez, so far the cast and crew is stacked with a talented group who has either won or been nominated for an Oscar.

The film will tell the story of a 14-year-old girl from suburban Pennsylvania who is murdered by her neighbor. She tells the story from Heaven, showing the lives of the people around her and how they have changed all while attempting to get someone to find her lost body. Gosling will play the girl’s father and Weisz will play the girl’s mother. The Lovely Bones will start principal photography in October in Pennsylvania and New Zealand.

Well at least the turndown from New Line has’nt stopped Peter Jackson from doing something else.

No Elijah Wood? This is an interesting choice, namely because Gosling seems young to be a 14 year olds father…but it’s the unconventional choices that seem to work well sometimes.

The Lovely Bones is my favorite book, and as always it gets ruined by a movie. I was so excited about this movie coming out. I couldn’t wait to see it…but now I read that Ryan Gosling (whom I absolutely LOVE) is playing Susie Salmon’s father! I am sorry but that makes no sense. I mean I don’t doubt that with his acting skills Ryan can pull it off, but I think he would’ve been better suited playing the detective. Regardless I am still going to see the movie. This is NO attack against Gosling’s acting skills…I am a HUGE fan of his, I just don’t think he looks the part of a 14 year-olds father.

I agree… I’m a huge Gosling fan (Half-Nelson was a tour de force) but… hello? The father of a 14-year-old? If anything, RG looks younger than his actual age.
On the other hand… Anne Bancroft was, what, 34, when she made The Graduate?
Bottom line… I’d watch Gosling burp for two hours. The kid is that good. Sorry, Rachel!
