Paul Thomas Anderson is one of the best directors of this generation. His filmography includes Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and Punch Drunk Love. His adaptation of Upton Sinclair’s novel Oil comes five years after his last big screen effort. The Will Be Blood is the story about family, greed, religion, and oil, centered around a turn-of-the-century Texas prospector (Daniel Day-Lewis) in the early days of the business. I’m not sure what to think right now. It doesn’t show enough for me to really form an opinion. But I have faith - PT is a genius, and Day-Lewis is one of the best actors alive today. Check out the first internet released movie teaser after the jump.

The trailer really awkward.I mean it’s not what we see in trailer’s today. It’s boring.

I agree, it is awkward - but I think that’s what PT was going for. Kinda like the old 1970’s movie trailers, the ones that didn’t have the fast cuts.

i agree, very much like the 70s stuff. very understated by today’s standards but it’s intriguing. i also think PTA is great director. can’t wait.

Last I heard it was set to debut at the Venice Film Festival on August 29th. The US release is set for November 21st 2007, just in time for Oscar season.

Unusual yet very intriguing trailer. It seems like it will be a strong film.

I got to see Paul speak in Berkeley, just before filming started on this. I’m encouraged by this trailer. I like that he’s reaching for something different. The trailer’s for Magnolia and Punch Drunk Love were a little out there as well. And besides, this is only a teaser. I cannot wait for the film. It’s been a long, dry five years.

I still think Anderson is the most exciting filmmaker of the last 25 years. Boogie Nights is constantly exciting, no matter how many times I see it, and Magnolia grew on me with years of viewing. Punch-Drunk Love can test the patience at times, but it’s an excellent twist on such a conventional genre. Looking forward to this one.
