This is the greatest movie since Reign of Fire. Its non-stop action and complete neglect of plot left me with my heart pounding and my pants soaked. The Deus ex machina plot worked seamlessly, and when the entire Dragon army dropped dead for absolutely no reason at all I nearly crapped my pants. Then, when the good dragon came out of no where to take care of the bad dragon, I really did crap my pants. Even though there had been absolutely no previous mention of its existence, its a good thing that other dragon was there. If it weren't for the second dragon, the protagonists would have been forced to play an active role in the story, and that would have ruined the whole thing. I know I'm just speculating, but it really would have sucked if the main characters had participated in the final showdown. Even though I was literally the only one in the theater who didn't leave 20 minutes into the movie, I predict that this movie is going to be tremendously important in American cinematography. Its influence will be felt for years to come, and it will be remembered as the most important film of the 21st century.

Many different opinion came out on a number of web-sites before the moive was released in South Korea. I don't really care about the others opinion about the movie as we have different taste. It's good to see and learn about other contury's legend through the movie.

I think he said in one of his interview that the Independence Day was his inspiration. I think that pretty much sums up his understanding of movie-making and his goal. He isn't clearly aiming for the Oscar or Palme d'Or. I think if he manages to crack the US market, it would be a great feat for the Korean movie industry.

I had a hard time staying awake during this movie. I don't get what the hyped up posts are all about. The acting sucked, there is virtually no plot to the movie and CG ain't that great either. I mean, come on! I've seen more plot and better acting in a power rangers TV episode... This movie is total crap. Save your money and get a piece of gum instead, you'll get more enjoyment out of that.

Save your money and do not go see this movie. Storyline is laughable. You can basically compress it to:

Guy and girl run from snake/pre-dragon imoogi thing (they run a lot, 3/4 of the movie involve them running maybe...), but are not successful. Luckily for them, magic saves the day.

There are scenes that are just ludricous and laughable. If this movie becomes a success in the U.S., it will be because it's soooo bad that it becomes a cult favorite. The "bad guy" army is something out of Star Wars I, II, or III. Shockingly out of context with its cannon blasters. Yes, the CG is nice, but CG alone does not make a movie. I loved the Host and this is on the other end of the spectrum of movies. Beginning to ramble now so I'll stop.

I saw this film it was terrible. Very weak plot, no character development and not much fun. I understand why koreans are proud of the movie. Because of the CG, of course the CG is good, but Director shim doesnt know how to tell a story and he doesnt know much about film making itself. This movie did very well in korea, but I dont think it will do well in the states. There are just soo many better other movies you can watch. D-war is a straight to DVD type of movie. The movie cost 75 million USD to make and Show box(the movie company) is hoping to win the American market with this movie. Im american, and I watch a lot of movies. I MEAN ALOT! I have over 500 DVD's, anyways this movie isnt going to do very well in the states. anyways watch it or dont watch it. Its your choice, dont say I didnt warn you!

Hello everyone
It is nice to see how many people actually are looking forward to watch the South Korean movie, D-War, by the director Shim Hyung Rae.
Just for some people that do not know much about the director, Mr.Shim has been a successful comedian for the past 20~30 years or so, and throughout his career, he had managed to produce a series of different movies, such as "Godzilla".
Throughout all these years, he had been working extremely hard to earn money for his career, and this time, he was able to create a
absolutely amazing movie for the world.
However, I do believe that the plot itself can be pretty childish, and I understand those of you who think of the movie that way.
But as a Korean, I am proud of the movie and its wonderful CG effects.
I have nothing against all of your comments, but I thought I might as well stop by to jot down some of my thoughts..
Thank you for listening
and I hope you enjoy the movie,
D-War ;)

D-war is a stale, uninspired, tired, regurgitated, borrowed piece of trash. The Director, Hyung-rae Shim, is under the misconception that bigger and louder is better. As a director he doesn’t understand the material itself, and by not realizing what he is working with he has failed to convey any vision that he may or may not have had. Transformers is also very loud and very big, but it is a much better film because Michael Bay understands the material is “hokey". He understands the mere concept of Transformers is silly and never tries to make the movie more than that. He has fun with the project and wants the audience to have fun too.
D-War tries to be too serious. The movie feels clumsy and never really started with a solid foundation; resulting in the crumbling of the film far before the last frame. I feel really sorry too, because the Korean media is pegging this movie as "On Par" with American films, and saying that it will "prove Koreas Place" in the Worlds Cinema. They couldnt be more wrong. It may win awards in Korea, and break box office records in the tiny Republic nation, but that’s as far as it will go. The only thing it has proven is exactly how NOT to make a movie.
At the end of the feature there is a little Biography about Hyung-rae Shim himself and the struggle it took to make the film (all in text and pictures). This last little bit cries "please watch my film so I can get money..sigh I worked soo hard...", which is a prime example of pure "Film-maker Masturbation". For those who dont understand what I mean, "think" about it. For me however, this is the worst movie I have seen in a while. You can feel the contempt in my words. There is nothing more in this world that I hate, than to sit through a piece of trash, especially one of this caliber. Its takes a very special filmmaker to make something truly great and the same could be said about the latter.
D-Wars opens September 14th under LIMITED release in the states. I dont see this fairing very well with American audiences who have seen other quite superior movies this summer. ----Dont worry, no CGI Dragons were harmed in the filming of this movie. Koreans are expecting Oscars, I expect Razzies.

At the end of the feature there is a little Biography about Hyung-rae Shim himself and the struggle it took to make the film (all in text and pictures). This last little bit cries “please watch my film so I can get money..sigh I worked soo hard…”, which is a prime example of pure “Film-maker Masturbation”. For those who dont understand what I mean, “think” about it.
—-Dont worry, no CGI Dragons were harmed in the filming of this movie. Koreans are expecting Oscars, I expect Razzies.

I don't think it took him entire 6 years to make. What I heard is a bit different. He came to hollywood 6 years to learn how hollywood makes blockbuster movies. Then he spent all those time to make much more networking among directors and all. The real time he put on the movie was about 2 years or so. That's what I heard but don't know for sure.

I am Korean myself, and to describe this movie in a short sentence, it's "as good as Transformer."
Top-notch CG and music/sound (same music director as in Transformer, CG is all Korean technics), but don't expect a storyline of, let's say the LOTR.
I still think the storyline is better and more complecated than Transformer, but you need to be familiar with the oriental concept of reincarnation (born again in later generation?) in order to fully understand the plot.
Anyways, it's not a perfect moive for everyone, but a great one for SF/CG lover like myself.

This is the movie I can't forget. It's fantastic and thrilling....
Each scene is spectacular and interesting.
It is a wonderful fusion between eastern and western culture.
Last week I watched the movie with my family, but I'm planning to watch once more with my friends. Because the wise man knows what the essence of science fiction is...
I hope you can't miss this flim.
