There were two "Indy" movies without Connery and they did quite well. As far as this film being pre-judged as bad, I say: just wait and see. How can you possibly know until it gets here? Regarding this being a deflection ... I'm not so sure. But I will say that Connery's stated reason does seem a little odd to me. I mean, I get that retirement is fun, but if he loves the people so much and if anything could make him come out of retirement, it would be this kind of movie (as he says) .... then .... what's the problem? Retirement is literally *that* fun? Maybe. But if we're looking for reasons, the deflection may have more to do with some other reason that Connery doesn't want to be part of the film.
