Remember how we told you last night that the first movie trailer for The Golden Compass would be attached to Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End? Well the trailer is available now. The new trailer uses a comparison to Lord of the Rings to get people psyched. Check it out after the jump.
So far I’m very excited with the footage I’ve seen. Let’s hope this is good as Narnia was a disappointment to most. Yahoo Movies has the trailer available in High Definition.

Looks really good. But I have to tell you it was very difficult to concentrate on it with that stupid “shoot the rapper” ad in the sidebar. I actually had to cover the ad with a piece of paper because it was so distracting. :-\
Just thought you ought to know.

It has potential, I’ll say that. I see that the cast is very good, but I’m unfamiliar with the story, so I still have my doubts. Just a curious fact, but I believe that the female vocal at the end of the trailer may be Lisa Gerrard singing the same song that is featured in Gladiator. Hans Zimmer scoring? That would make the movie that much better.

It looks fairly good, but it won’t match up to Lord of the Rings, no matter how hard New Line’s pr department tries to convince us it will.

Prediction
Biggest Movie of the Holiday season in 2007/Beginning of 2008.
Looks great and seems to roll pretty well in the trailer.
This is what we need, more fresh movies rather than sequels or
rehashed versions of older movies.

It almost seems like this summer there are nothing BUT sequels coming out!

I totally agree… BUT you do know that this is a book series adaptation right? so it’s not exactly “fresh”….

I’m afraid they’ll give Nicole Kidman’s character too big of a role due to her star power - the books had Mrs Coulter as an important character, but not one that was present throughout the whole storytelling narrative.
