On Thursday we posted a photo of a Harvey Dent for Gotham District Attorney poster (seen below) that was released on The Dark Knight mini site ibelieveinharveydent.com. Most people (like us) complained about the horrible photoshop job.
But what first seemed like a poorly done Internet release actually became viral, resulting in the unmasking of The Joker.
These Joker cards were “found” spread all over a comic book store in Southern California. Stamped on the cards is “Ha Ha Ha I Believe in Harvey Dent Too”. A few hours later internet users discovered the website ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com, which features the same campaign poster, but this time defaced by The Joker.
A little input box asked for users to submit their e-mail address. No further information was given. But people took the bait and entered. They soon after received an e-mail:
The website link brought users to a page where they could enter the coordinate assigned.

Slowly users entered in pixel coordinates. Each one revealed a piece of a hidden photo behind the campaign poster.
Users quickly figured out that the hidden image was that of Heath Ledger as The Joker. As of this posting, the full image has not been uncovered.
The following is the final result:
And there you have it, The Joker and possibly one of the best viral marketing campaigns done for a movie thus far. I’m pretty sure the studio must be disappointed that the whole plot will be uncovered in a matter of 24 hours. I’m sure they expected this game to last a little while longer.

I thought the A.I. viral game was kind of impressive…

I absolutely love it!

They took down the page and replaced it with one that says “page not found.” If you highlight the entire page, you just see a bunch of “hahahas” in different sizes. Looks like they’re not down with this thing yet.

There appears to be a code in between the HA Ha HA hA stuff. Several letters are scattered throughout. I’ve found S, O, U, I, N, D, E, C, E, E, R. There could be more, that was just a quick glance.

if you copy and past the haha’s in ms word and replace all of the “h”s and “a”s with nothing, the remaining letters spell “see you in december”

That’s funny, I just did that because it’s hard to read on the page but you can clearly find them once copy and pasted.

You thought the A.I. game was KIND OF impressive? I doubt that game will be bested anytime soon.
May 22nd, 2007 at 8:20 am
Yeah… I “kind of” understated that, don’t you think? :)
What I meant with my backasswards comment was what you said: This Joker site is nothing compared to the A.I. game.

“See you in December” is what is written in between the code, I’m assuming for the teaser trailer?

see you in december. maybe they are further along with the movie than anyone knows?

Joker and two-face are the two best villians in the movie, I think Joker is the best even better than two-face, Joker is the best best villian that Batman came up against. Heath Ledger brings, Joker to a top maximum. He is just great for the part.

Regarding the “See you in December” comment…a friend of mine is working on the movie in Chicago and there are rumors on the set that that is when the first trailer with actual footage is going to be released.

great game. I hope the movie lives up to all the hipe. I’ve been a batman fan forever and ‘begins’ was awesome. keep up the good work.

I think the Joker is the best villain ever. I can’t wait for this movie. My favorite version of the Joker in the cartoons was in The Batman.

I think if anyone could do the character justice, Heath Ledger would be best. I still like Jack Nicholson’s performance, but the Glasgow smile on Heath’s a nice touch.

if you highlight all the letters at ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com you see a bunch of “haha” in different sizes…however, if you pick out all of the letters it comes to read, “see you in december.”

Luka Magnotta is in this too, Luka plays clayface, it was reported.
Damm this will be good.

Jack Nicholson didn’t play the Joker well at all. He did a good job of playing Jack Nicholson with make-up on…Heath Ledger is going to blow that cat out of the water. The old Batman movies suck anways. Tim Burton should have read a comic book before he dove into that production.

I love the sinister look that heath ledger brings to the screen!

ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com is now dead… it says page not found with a black background
January 7th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
If you got to the ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com it says page not found but if you highlight it. It says “ha ha” all over the page. And if you look closely letters mixed into the “ha ha”s spell out see you in december.

oh! Please,
The joker looks like the “Crow” sorry, but Jack was better! the joker is intelligent and psychotic, Sorry the joker is not a fighter! I think this crap called batman is just that! I think that people should actually read the comics before making this junk!
June 22nd, 2008 at 6:04 pm
william, i hate to be mean but you obviously havent read much Batman since Frank miller did his amazing work on Year One some twenty years ago. These new batman movies are exactly what Batman is now, whether you like it or not. The Joker is insane. Insane in a way that has never truly been explored until now. Don’t get me wrong, Jack did a fine job but that was the 80’s idea of what the joker should be like. The Joker is not only a fighter, but a mastermind in getting others to fight for him before he lets it all out. Read more of the post Frank Miller ‘verse and then you will see why ledger was the right choice. If you havent seen it, check out the new trailer, Jack has nothing on him.
Your entitled to your opinion, but make sure its an informed one.

Heath Ledger was an awesome Joker. He played the part way better than what Jack Nicholson would have done IMO. Great movie. Well worth going to see.
