I grew up in the 80’s but never really liked the Rambo films. And the previously released photos of Sylvester Stallone as Rambo have been laughable. And now they have released the John Rambo movie trailer, which looks equally as bad. It looks like a bad direct-to-dvd sequel featuring an old action star in attempt to earn some fast cash. But instead, this one is theatrical (ugh). Check out the trailer after the jump, thanks to AICN (via: FS).
John Rambo hits theaters on May 25th 2008. You have been warned.

May 19th, 2007 at 6:27 pm
c’mon guys!!! this is one of those early release trailers BUT STILL, this has the potentential to be AWESOME! give sly some slack he did rocky right, im sure rambo is going to rock!
May 19th, 2007 at 6:47 pm
This… is… going… to… be… awesome.
May 19th, 2007 at 9:47 pm
Looks worse than I even I imagined (and I imagined it to be pretty damn awful). Stallone’s too old, way too old, to play this character. The story is as generic as they come, as are the action scenes. With Rocky, he played the character right, as a busted-up, broken-down ex-world champ incapable of living in the present. Sorry, Rambo fans, “John Rambo” will bomb and bomb hard at the multiplexes.
May 19th, 2007 at 11:05 pm
Yeah, he’s not metrosexual enough for you huh. not enough latent rump jockey happening for ya, huh
Too much testosterone for ya, sissy man?
May 19th, 2007 at 11:18 pm
It definetly made me feel like a qas watching a LONG low-budget over-dramatic soap opera…i;m sure they can work on that trailer a bit more, even with the stuff they have and create something WAY betterl… just TRY!
May 20th, 2007 at 5:22 am
for a person who just likes to watch action and gore (and i don’t mean al gore) this movie looks like a lot of fun. why do people want to be so hard on stallone? he just wants to entertain, not change the world with his movies.
May 20th, 2007 at 7:27 am
That showed some pretty graphic scenes for a legal trailer… I wonder if it even was formally released. And as bad as it looks i still got excited..This is exactly what we need boys! Dirty action. Gritty stupid action that theyll make fun of in Hot Shots 3 (cuz thats what it looked like).
May 20th, 2007 at 6:18 pm
Nothing anyone’s said here has convinced me that my initial assessment is wrong. Rambo 4 looks like crap, straight-to-DVD crap (as Mr. Sciretta suggested in his original post). Stallone’s way too old be convincing as an action hero. Notice how he’s no longer wearing a stripped-down t-shirt? Well, he is. The wig doesn’t help either. Add to that a seriously lame storyline and typically racist potrayals of Asians (Burmese in this case) and no amount of gratuitous throat-ripping and random disembowelments can save Rambo 4 from bombing at the box office. And yep, I stand by my words.
May 21st, 2007 at 2:13 am
Rambo will rip Balboas head off
May 21st, 2007 at 4:34 am
Mr. Sciretta is obviously more of a “Brokeback Mountain” kind of guy. Now I’m sure there are plenty of his type around that are waiting in lines for the next Star Wars episode, but let me assure him that Rambo will make over 100 million just in the U.S. Why? Because there are actually still a lot of men who would rather see Stallone shooting up Burma than watching cuddling cowboys.
May 21st, 2007 at 7:59 am
C’mon guys it’s a Rambo movie not some love storie, or let’s change the world and get huggy feely. Just a no thinking involved sit back and watch crap blow up.
If you want anything more then you need to have your mom pick out a chic flic for you to watch while you are rubbing her corns on Friday night.
May 24th, 2007 at 10:37 am
about 20 of my buddies are making a “man-night” event for John Rambo. movies like this are what made the 80s such a great time to grow up (Robocop anyone?).
i’ll be wearing my bandana…how about you guys?
May 24th, 2007 at 12:15 pm
I’ll be the guy with the knife between his teeth!!
May 27th, 2007 at 10:31 am
So in the span of 5 minutes John Rambo rips a dudes throat out, saws a guy in half with a machine gun, and kills i don’t know how many people. DID HE PUNCH A GUYS HEAD OFF? because that is pretty RAD. I mean seriously he punches the guys f*&^ing head clean off. How could this movie not rule, what do you d-bags expect its RAMBO.
May 31st, 2007 at 5:24 pm
Let’s not forget that Rambo is a War Hero…who has spent most of his life trying to be normal and wanting to be normal. Every time his nation has called on him, he’s gone above and beyond the call of duty. I don’t care how bad the movie is… but it should end with Rambo dieing in combat and being buried at Arlington Cemetery with one of the biggest Military funeral ever seen; with all Military honor befitting Military Hero’s.
But it won’t!!! It will end like most War Hero’s life ends. He will die in battle, in a country that most have never traveled to and be buried in a small cemetery with very little tears from those he fought give freedom. And that will be the tragic end to John Rambo. So I think, that every Rambo fan should give this Hero the respect to go watch this movie no matter how bad it is or is not. Its time the War Hero’s get the RESPECT he (they) deserve…
May 31st, 2007 at 8:38 pm
As so many have already stated, this is RAMBO guys. Unlike the wussified generations coming up, and with Hollywood having gone to suck with CG flicks and stuff… John Rambo (Rambo IV) is a breath of fresh air that has been too long in the waiting. When the film comes out it’ll have been 20 years since the last one. I like that idea, plus the fact that I see this film as returning to it’s “First Blood” roots (sort of). Rambo isn’t supposed to be some super cut elite soldier anymore, he’s 20 years older, living in relative seculsion and once again must do the right thing. It’s our suckwad Politically Correct age that’s the problems, and I for one will be with the rest of the GIs rooting on the last American bad ass. Hopefully Stallone will let Rambo get killed in action by the filmms end though, end it on a good note. I loved Rocky Balboa after being a doubter, I think this film has potential indeed. The rest of you haters go watch Brokeback Mountain and one of the shitty Underworld movies or something and let the fading light of “real” men Hoorah all the way to the cinema.
June 1st, 2007 at 7:25 pm
Thanks for all the feedback about my movie. This is more than just a sequel. It is a parable of my life. There have been many times that I have been forgotten about and I have felt rejected over my decisions (ie, Oscar and Stop or My Mom Will Shoot). But, like Rambo, I come back with a vengence (Cliffhanger and Rocky Balboa). I have succeeded when I have been doubted; John Rambo will succeed even though it has been doubted.
June 1st, 2007 at 7:29 pm
atta kid sly, i’ll watch your movie. u cant make enough rambos for me
June 1st, 2007 at 11:14 pm
O..M..F’ING…GOD!!!!
Glad to see there are still “Man Man” Guyz around interested in man man stuff like this. Not to beat a dead horse, but Guyz that Get it, know this movie will kick.
If you cant understand it or enjoy it, then do as the suggestions above (hand your sack over to the significant other first).
Sly (if that is you posting), Keep doing what you do, you seem to behaving fun with it, and many of us seem to enjoy it. Was excited about rocky, and haven’t been this excited in a long time.
Good catch line too, hope it makes it in the final. Maybe you get Quinton to direct it so the lame ass Dou***bag film industry will give it a R, but if it is NC-17, I am first in line (They gave Grindhouse a R, so shouldn’t be a problem.)
Thanks for re-kindling my childhood heros!!!
June 3rd, 2007 at 4:13 pm
Yo, firstly, all you haters of rambo can suck on my man chowder. Rambo aint all about cinematic history and enthralling storylines. Its fuckin sly shootin the bad guys up and saving the day. It looks bad ass in my opinion and im def going to watch it! All you cockless wonders out there who say it looks shite can go get a sex change or buy a microscope and locate your dicks cos you arnt men. What else you gonna go watch at the cinema? fuckin bummer films or some shit no doubt!
P.S. Am even more excited to see hes still using his bad-motherfucker of a bow and arrow on the baddies! WATCH OUT BURMA JOHN RAMBOS IN TOWN!!!
June 11th, 2007 at 2:16 pm
Peter what are you a fag? this looks awesome!!!!!!!
June 11th, 2007 at 3:02 pm
Wow, what’s with all the juvenile homophobia going on in this thread? Fag this, fag that. Is everyone here 12-years old? Wait, that might be exaggerating. Is everyone here 10-years old? And if you’re not, what exactly is your mental and emotional damage? If you’re so eager to see real blood and gore, then run, don’t walk to your nearest recruting station. I hear the U.S. army is short on manpower. I’m sure you’d fit in there just fine. If not, I’m sure the drill instructors will knock some sense into those empty heads of yours.
That is all.
P.S. This movie still looks like utter and complete crap and insulting anyone and everyone that disagrees with you is going to change that.
June 11th, 2007 at 4:11 pm
mdog acts like a 6 year old, resorting to homophobic slams, but his ip address reveals that he sent the e-mail from NBC/Univeral. Interesting.
June 11th, 2007 at 4:21 pm
if you think being an intern is interesting
June 12th, 2007 at 3:46 am
never been a fan of Rambo movies, but anything that will help make Americans, and others, aware of the tragedy taking place in that country and the need to do something about it, is good work as far as Im concerned.
Stallone could easily have made some stupid film with Islamic terrorists as the bad guys and cashed in. Instead, he’s put the spotlight on a forgotten part of the world where the horrors he is depicting are very very real. More power to him.
June 13th, 2007 at 10:37 am
What bring you luck, Rambo?
Take your heads out of your asses! Rambo is one of those series that made me cream my pants when I heard there was going to be a 4th. The only thing better will be Terminator 4. Oh fuck yeah! FUCK YEAH! You go Rambo!
June 13th, 2007 at 6:56 pm
Adam, you creamed your pants? Is that right? If it is, then it’s all starting to make sense to me. Every Rambo nut posting here calling everyone who disagrees with them “gay” or “homo” is obviously projecting their own insecurities about their masculinity (i.e., attraction to other men) It’s sad realy, because another crappy Rambo flick isn’t the answer, long-term therapy to deal with your urges is.
That is all.
June 14th, 2007 at 10:19 pm
I grew up in the 80’s and loved the Rambo movies. I probably won’t let my
kids watch it, but I will surely kick back, pop some popcorn, and watch this
movie again and again. The man looks great and is still living his dream.
Great job!
June 15th, 2007 at 7:01 am
fyodor, you prob don’t follow the other rambo movies. most losers aren’t fans. enjoy your lace curtains.
June 15th, 2007 at 9:20 am
It’s clear that Rambo knows next to nothing about Burma. Its also clear that he’s never been in a war zone in South East Asia (or anywhere else for that matter because if anyone has, you’d never subscribe to the ‘good guy’ ‘bad guy’ formula. Having spent more than 15 years as a photographer travelling throughout Burma (including the areas depicted in this film) and its cleaer that the only ‘reality’ depicted by the movie makers exists in their heads.
Also really dubious missionary/Christian message contained here.
June 15th, 2007 at 12:45 pm
Mikeslick, thanks for the incredibly insightful, useful comments. Oh wait, nothing you said in your completely worthless post with the inane, unoriginal slam about my masculinity. Wait, isn’t that paragon of American masculinity, Rush (I got out of serving in the army thanks to a boil on my ass) Limbaugh on?
Once again, for the slow kids in the back, John Rambo will bomb and bomb hard. Two groups will see it: the massively homophobic, jingoistic, warmongering wingers who still live in their mother’s basements and aren’t man enough to stand up for their beliefs and volunteer to serve in Iraq looking to get off on some vicarious violence and everyone else too curious for their own good. Mikeslick is obviously in the first group.
And Eric, thanks for the thoughtful, insightful comments. They’ve been all too rare in this thread.
June 18th, 2007 at 4:18 pm
Well I can’t speak for everyone here but I’m going to chime in (again). I don’t believe anyone here is accusing anyone of being a homosexual simply because others don’t have any interest in seeing RAMBO IV or think it’ll bomb. I think the real issue here is simple.
Those of us who are pumped up about seeing this 20 year in the making sequel really just want a no brainer action film with “filmmed” violence. Not some CGI fiasco and self important nonsense in the vein of some Angelina Jolie film or whatever. It’s freggin’ RAMBO. Basically if you didn’t grow up in the 80s you’re not going to get the appeal. If you didn’t live through the cold war and liked seeing American pride over exaggerated… you’re not going to get it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion at the end of the day, but seriously. Political Correctness is what destroyed the golden era of “action” films ppl. Everyone’s into comic book bullshit with over glossed CG SFX and more, and no one really cares for the old ways. This movie is going to be (for better or worse) a return to that “feeling” if only for the duration of it’s running time. So in the name of Action would some of you guys who hate the idea of this film just chill. Let us cave men revel in pointless violence.
June 24th, 2007 at 9:28 am
FyodorFish WHAT THE FUCK IS YOUR PROBLEM!!! Can’t you just let people who enjoy this film watch it! Or do you have to stick your fuckin big head on you high horse in! To be fair, i reckon your the gay one on here constantly talking about homophobia and how wrong it is… and saying that dusnt make me gay before you post a stupid predicatable response saying that. Im not homophobic either but your asking to get the piss taken out of you by dissin rambo, when it is clearly class and just a different genre of film to enjoy. So you dont like it, woopy fuckin doo, dont go preachin and telling everyone else to hate it….
that IS all
June 24th, 2007 at 9:31 am
P.s. the more you bring up Iraq the more I laugh at you because you clearly know nothing, Why even mention it?? just because its a war film, you can enjoy war films without being going awol or desertin from the army. Frankly its disrespectful to the Iraq veterans who WOULD go and watch it.
Grow some nuts and admit your wrong man.
June 24th, 2007 at 6:39 pm
Actually, it might be decent. Will it be a blockbuster? Doubt it. Will it entertain you with “leave your brain at the door” actuion? Probably so. But in this time of over used CGI effects, pretty boy leading men, and way too P.C. scripts, I’m looking forward to some old school blood, guts, and explosions.
June 24th, 2007 at 6:41 pm
One more thing….everyone relax. No need in going all nuts and insulting each other on a freakin’ blog.
June 30th, 2007 at 5:27 pm
Well i’ve seen it on all sides of this arguement but personally i reckon it’s going to be a good all round leave your brains at the door, grab the popcorn and beer ( if it’s allowed at your local cinema ) and sit back and watch the mayhem explode all over that juicy huge-ass cinema screen, just enjoy it for what it is, no PC agenda just good old die-hard action as the series was always meant to be, stuff the politics and people trying to see holes in the plot or scenario, just watch and enjoy.. best way.. :D
July 4th, 2007 at 12:45 pm
I can t believe you bald little nerds putting this trailer down , this is one of the best trailers i’ve ever seen .. an i’ve seen alot of them. Slys a guy who doesnt know how to fail an you jealous low lifes dont even have the decentcy to applaude his performance…Hes 60 years old an is in much better shape than you guys will ever be. Why dont you stop living in your own world an give the guy his dues you stupid morons. Hes not going to bomb an hes going to prove you all wrong like he has time an time again.
July 24th, 2007 at 4:31 pm
Well, Sciretta gave his opinion and that’s about all it is. I say the trailer looks good and I am excited for the movie. Suggesting it is a straight to DVD movie is just stupid. Who let’s this guy review anything anyway?
August 28th, 2007 at 10:09 pm
thankyou mike! for putting an end to this ridiculous argument (notice fyodor hasn’t posted anything since you haha) why any of you care what the others think is beyond me - you don’t even know each other!
GO RAMBO!!
September 6th, 2007 at 7:15 am
I was fixin’ to make a comment; but, I finally came to the conclusion that I had better things to do with my life.
September 15th, 2007 at 1:11 am
anyone who says anything negative about john rambo is ‘uncool’ to say the least.
i question anyones intentions who likes to call stallone old or corny. first of all, he’s 64 yrs old for anyone who just didnt know. second, im sure any of us in a string bakini would pale in comparison to his superior physique. i bet none of you hold a candle to sylvester stallone. im pretty ripped and about 180 lbs and i know i can only hope to be as physically dominant as stallone. thirdly, his wife makes any chicks you and i date look inferior. why do you all bash him…i dont know. i truly dont know why you think your ‘cool’ when you talk negatively about him. the man makes kick @$$ movies, plain and simple.
its because of people like you that my friends and i have to settle for action movies like de ja vu or the bourne ultimatum. these movies are cool, but they arent kick @$$ stallone movies. it is because of people who like to sound cool that we no longer have larger than life action hero’s to cheer on in our movie theaters. the next time any of you decide to bash stallone, please reconsider. ask yourself why exactly you are bashing him. is it because he’s a par golfer and you arent. is it because he’s a millionare and you arent. is it because he’s huge and cut and most of you arent. is it because his wife is a rich fitness model. also, one thing that really agitates me is when people try to say he’s making john rambo for fast cash.
some of you probably work at walmart. i ask you this. do you go stock the shelves for fast cash…or is that how you pay your rent. some of you probably work on cars. i ask you this. do you go change oils for fast cash…or is that how you pay your rent. stallone is an actor. to pay his rent he makes kick @$$ action movies. most of us arent as lucky as he is. you know what, while most of us go to sleep or drink beer after a long day at work stallone is in the gym getting his ’swole’ on.
i love it when i meet someone that says they dont like stallone because i enjoy learning how these peoples minds work. its kind of like people that hate on tom cruise. if i were to ask these people what scientology is 99.6% wouldnt even know. they would reply with some unintilectual comment like, “uh, isnt like when you dont believe in god or something.”
please, dont jump on the negative bandwagon unless it’s warranted my friends.
on a closing note, im not sure who wrote this review but i have this to say to you-my dvd collection consists of action genre films such as cobra, bloodsport, delta force 2, all the rocky’s, all the rambo’s, predator etc. etc. i would surely like to see more of these movies but theres one problem. films like delta farce and hotshots are more popular in today’s pop culture and as a result it’s almost never that a great, gritty action film has a theatrical release. when i have parties at my place, i have rocky 4 playing on my t.v. i suppose it’s not cool to wear clothes that fit you also. its more ‘cool’ to wear clothes that are 15 sizes to big right?
if anyone else out there feels the way i do please, holla. post your thoughts on these sites. let it be known that it is ‘cool’ to be huge and ripped. let it be known that live free or die hard was an awesome movie. let it be know that we want stallone to keep giving us great action movies.
September 19th, 2007 at 10:05 pm
stallone is the greatest actor of all time I dont understand why people bag on him this will be a great film just like all the rest such as my tavs the rocky’s and tango and cash demo man cliffhanger so on and so on keep the films coming stallone I will pick a couple up every time
October 1st, 2007 at 4:09 pm
Sly did well with the last Rocky. Here’s hoping he does well with this too.
I am surprised that he himself is on a mission though. I could see him in a command position now, watching men he trained execute a mission, but I don’t realistically see a man his age executing a mission. Still it should be interesting.
October 17th, 2007 at 2:12 pm
HELL YEAH!!! Blast from the past. I spread the word to my boys and about 15 of us are going to see this. This will kick ass. All you critics out there, dont worry, the next Harry Potter movie will be out next year. RAMBO, KILL SOMEBODY ALLREADY!!! No fancy story line needed. Just give me an unimaginably tragic situation and let rambo loose. ITS RAMBO!!! YEAH!!!!
November 2nd, 2007 at 12:10 pm
didn’t like him in the 80’s and don’t like him now. What a surprise. Is this supposed to be an unbiased review? Maybe you should stick to watching “Sleepless in Seatle” and other such chickified craptastic movies this movie is way to cool for you.
November 2nd, 2007 at 7:16 pm
I still ask: Why is an operator this age on a mission? I’m 52 and I know there is no way Uncle is calling anyone MY age back and Sly is 64. Regardless of his shape, Uncle is NOT calling him back.
Nevertheless, this is the year of retro movies.
November 3rd, 2007 at 7:05 am
Uncle Sam is not the one asking him for help. And for the record, you sound like you are 82 instead of 62. It’s a movie!!!!! Go read your AARP mag and let the rest of us wait in anticipation of Rambo!
November 3rd, 2007 at 8:10 am
Lou, since no one has bothered to give the PLOT LINE, I made an unwarranted assumption that the government was using ol’ John for another mission. Also, I’m 52 not 62, kindly don’t wish me any older, LOL.
November 3rd, 2007 at 1:52 pm
hey I’m 51 myself so I know a bit about creaky knees and sore backs. I guess thats why I pull for the old guys!
November 3rd, 2007 at 6:40 pm
Let’s face it, Rambo is an action flick, it’s for fun. I like military flicks, so do a lot of guys.
Bayer Back & Body does wonders for those aches Lou. I think I keep the company stock up.
November 5th, 2007 at 4:58 pm
I’m gonna pop about 4 bayers, drink a 20 oz coffee to keep me awake and head to the theatre for 2 hours of old man ass kickin!!!Hope to see you there!
November 5th, 2007 at 6:52 pm
df
November 16th, 2007 at 4:28 am
Yep, its a Rambo film. If you don’t like them…fine….If you do…fine. I llike the looks of it as its old school action.
I agree that it should be the finale, and Rambo should buy the farm in the end. : )
November 30th, 2007 at 9:31 am
Good for you Sly,
I enjoyed your movies since First Blood and they are nothing more than sheer entertainment, maybe that’s the part that nobody else understand.
If they want real footage, they should log onto crappy youtube and alike and watch the iraquies waste brothers in the name of Alah.
Please keep producing and acting until you drop, on the stage.
December 1st, 2007 at 10:15 pm
Fydorfish I really hope the earth opens up and swallows you very soon. This is a fucking movie not real life! It is soley meant to entertain the adrenaline junkies out there that grew up in the 80s and like to see one last kick from one of the action movie giants of the time. It’s very clear you don’t like this type of film. You are more of a mundane put you to sleep type of movie goer. You know the kind of movie that usually gets nominated for an Oscar. Not movies that entertain and maybe get you to laugh and bust a gut movie. Something that makes you feel good when you leave the theater. No you would rather fall asleep and or cry leaving the theater feeling really shitty about the world you live in. And then go home and spend hours online leaving sarcastic comments about movies that you aren’t interested in. Go home grab your mom’s razor and slice your wrists and leave the rest of the fans of these films to go about enjoying the films they are interested in. All I have to say.
December 19th, 2007 at 1:09 pm
The slobbering liberals hate this movie because God is mentioned and a Christian cross is shown.
January 24th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
Hi
Rush Limbaugh gave the whole plot on his radio show. I guess there is no need to see this.
January 26th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
just to remind all you good people, God didnt create Rambo, a colonel in the army did…
January 27th, 2008 at 11:17 am
rambo will always be rambo..no matter how much he gets he really have tat impact on my child hood…it may look fake but wat the hack!!if it excites me and those seen all the rambo movies..i will watch it even it sucks cause it bringsback old memories…remember E.T.?……
January 30th, 2008 at 7:32 am
hi…4 me JOHN ROMBO is still my idol….what ever he does is the BEST…
January 31st, 2008 at 6:27 am
Well i downloaded the [stuffies] CAM release of this a couple of days ago and watched the whole film, surprisingly it does work despite his age as some people complain about, it IS his most violent rambo movie yet with roughly 2.5 kills per minute but it’s one of those leave-your-brain-at-the-door type of films, just go, sit and watch and enjoy. (Have popcorn , will travel) .. :P
February 9th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
Best movie EVER!!!!! I loved it and I’m a WOMAN, a woman who loves a good blood and guts keep-me-on-the-edge of my seat flick! I didn’t realize how much I missed John Rambo. Eighteen years is too long. It’s a powerful film. Too powerful for those who can’t handle the truth. The truth is that each and every minute somewhere in the world a cruel and horrible episode of genocide or homicide is being played out. The ending of the movie couldn’t have been better. A full circle, a fitting, yet hopeful ending. I hope to see John Rambo again on the screen. But if that doesn’t happen I’m happy in knowing he made it back to find closure. Thank you, Sylvester Stallone, for bringing some of the best and most human stories to us. You’re the man!
February 9th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
Boners!! I just pray that genocide catches on so that more action movies can be made like this one.
They should make a movie where Rambo busts through Skynets defense grid and travels back in time to WW2 to free the Jews from the Germans. How good would that be!? Rambo as the saviour of the Jewish horde? Awesome! They would shower Rambo with their Jew gold and sacrifice a 1000 virgins in his name. I’m going to get it started and sacrifice the first one… everyone follow suit.
June 29th, 2008 at 10:38 am
looks like a cross between Jeff Beck and Gov. Arnold
