I suppose this could go the way of Hannibal Rising/Star Wars I (disasters that detract from the original material) or Batman Begins/Casino Royale (a decent retelling/origin story that can revitalize a franchise). As for the director, Blade: Trinity was unwatchable (and I liked the first two), but then he penned the excellent Batman Begins. If they can really draw on the Chris Clairemont exploration of Magneto, it might actually be good. Anything to wash the taste of X-Men: The Last Stand out of my mouth would be welcome.
