Fantastic Four and the Not So Fantastic Galactus

GalactusFor months now we’ve waited for some small peek at the Fantastic Four mega-villain. It seems like only a few weeks ago when Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer director Tim Story told us that Galactus’ design was not yet complete.

There continues to be much speculation about Galactus. Major speculation. We haven’t finished the design of him/it so be careful about what you read and believe. Trust me, no one knows. One thing’s for sure, you can expect to see him/it. It will be pretty powerful. I’m having a lot of fun with the concept and believe me - MOST will be satisfied.

We quietly wondered to ourselves, how the design was not yet final, and the film was due in theaters in a matter of weeks. I thought big CG FX shots took time, especially ones that involve giant robot creatures.

Now we have a possible answer, and you’re not going to like what you’re about to read. AICN is reporting that Galactus could take the form of… a storm cloud. That’s right, Silver Surfer will be fighting a storm cloud. If this is true, I don’t know how Tim Story could believe that MOST fans will be “satisfied.”

Sometimes called the Devourer of Worlds or Ravager of Planets, Galactus is an enormously powerful being who must “feed” on the energy of planets to survive. He has consumed countless planets, resulting in the elimination of entire extra-terrestrial civilizations. He is pictured to the right.

Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer hits theaters on June 15th 2007.

  • I know this happens all over the internet, but wikipedia is an encyclopedia, just like any other.

You make several quotations in your post and they are lifted straight off of the wikipedia Galactus entry.

I know this because I'm the editor of the said article who actually wrote what you've quoted.

"Sometimes called the Devourer of Worlds or Ravager of Planets, Galactus is an enormously powerful being who must “feed” on the energy of planets to survive. He has consumed countless planets, resulting in the elimination of entire extra-terrestrial civilizations."

At least CITE your sources and DON'T plagiarize and pass off the writing as your own.

There's a reason why I disliked the first Fantastic 4. Crappy creative decisions. And it seems they still haven't changed their ways... Looks like I just saved myself $8 and the experience of sitting through a pile of crap.

    Source: Ain't It Cool News:

and my theory is this: Tom Rothman was once molested by a giant.

No, seriously. It all makes sense now. This is the guy who absolutely resisted any attempts to put the Sentinels in any of the X-MEN movies, who once famously said, “There won’t be any giant robots in any movie my studio makes.”
Wanted to let you know what Galactus is going to look like / be represented as in the FF2 sequel:
    A storm cloud.
    yep.
That's it. That's the solution from the creatives
    (clears throat).....pretty lame.

SCREW YOU TOM ROTHMAN! If you don't like robots so much, why was their a Sentinel in X3? or robots in I, Robot? You're pathetic. Pathetic. You ruined this film for me and evey other Marvel fan around the world. this movie will suck big time, and it's all your fault!

Optimus Prime has pretty much nailed it. I haven't been so disappointed in a movie since 'Wing Commander'.
  • Optimus Prime
I haven't yet seen Wing Commander, but I've heard from my cousin it's really disappoitning.

    Last disappointing movies seen:

    Fantastic Four
    X3
    AVP
    Super Mario Brothers
    Elektra
    Hulk
    and Superman Returns
  • Optimus Prime
Galactus. I was very disappopinted in his disign, but the only reason I
went to see ROTSS was to see Galactus at the end. But luckily, it begins
with him killing a planet. But, here's my thought. Maybe the real giant
Galactus hides within the cloud, so that the cloud produces enought
energy for him to destroy the planets. Here's an idea. If they make a
Silver Surfer spin-off, Galactus can talk to Norrin Radd and the cloud
spins off to show the true form of Galactus. Hopefully, a yes. But what made
me mad, is he's only in it for about six minutes seperate. I thougth Silver
Surfer was a good movie, but not too great.

Out of all the movies you mentioned, I must say I really was impressed by Superman Returns. Hulk, ya. Elektra, just wanted to see Jennifer Garner prance around for a few hours (hott). X3, I really enjoyed but I think the subliminal PS3 ad on the bridge scene kinda blew it for me. (Child plays video game, parents look blissfully out the window, seat it front of Beast says 'PS3' (very subtle), Beast looks at the camera like he just shot a load in his pants.) As far as FF2, I was so utterly dissapointed I almost walked out, and I haven't walked out on a movie since 'Spice World'. I should have walked out on Wing Commander, and I should've walked out on FF2. As it is, I'd like my 92 minutes of life back please. The one-liners might have cut to the bone funny in 1962 (no offense Stan), but seriously they're worn out. No kidding, they need to get Brian Bendis writing some of these scripts, or at least giving them a treatment. Wait a minute, I take it back. If BB starts writing scripts, he won't have time for the awesome comics he graces us with. So, hmm, I guess that just leaves Joss Whedon and Kevin Smith. A Silver Surfer spin off would be great, and maybe they'd have enough budget for a proper Galactus. C'mon people, I need to see some purple and a pointy hat! But, dude, Galactus does NOT just go *poof*, and Tim Rothman can go and shoot the next 'You've Got Mail' out of his...
  • Yeah. i was also very disappointed about not SEEING MY FAVOURITE GALACTUS: DEVOURER OF PLANETS.

    WHAT A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT.
