What an injustice! I don't think there is any comparison between Grindhouse and Harry Potter.

I too am an older but still great fan of the harry potter books and am amamazed they want to cut the running time of the biggest book in the series. I would quite happily sit for 2.5 or more hours to watch the movie if it does justice to the book. My husband doesn't read the books but loves the movies and looks forward to them when they come out. I don't want to have to explain what it all means at the end of the OOTP if they cut out too much.

The order of the pheonix has to be long at least 3 hours ,it's the biggest and maybe the most important and most complicated of them all!!! It can't last less than the first ONE!!!
Someone has to do something!!! I REFUSE THAT THIS HAPPENS !!!

If the movie held to the book closely, or was able to really make sense of the story,
I would love to sit and watch it in the theater. I felt that "Goblet of Fire" didn't expose a lot of what was laid out in the book. It seemed disconnected in part. I hope this doesn't happen with this next one.

We're all for longer movies if it holds to the book.

I totally agree with all of the comments "demanding" the movies be as close to the book's plot as possible. If that means that they are 3 hours to 3.5 hours long then why not. The books are the story, if you change too much in the script then fans , while they will continue to see the films regardless. will be unhappy. I supposed that before, when the books were a bit more simple, parents wanted to take their kids to the "coolest new movie" because that's what it was to the kids. When they got there they had to deal with them whining about how long it was. people thought it would gross less if they were too long because if you lose the moms you lose the kids. Well considering the fact that the movies are no longer youth oriented I think making them the best they can is of higher priority. Anyways the real issue
is that Michael Gambon (Dumbledore) has not been doing too well for 1.5 movies now (I say .5 because he had some promising moments in POA). Can someone please tell him to read the books and never repeat anything in that travesty of a scene when harry is harassed by the other champions "did you ask one of the older students to do it for yoU!!?"
COME ON. Who ever told him to say that doesn't know Dumbledore. I mean seriously.

when i watch the films i sit there twitching and correcting them, even the shortest ones .the're great films but could be so much better. why don't they just show two at the cinema , a shortend verion for kids and dumb people (no offence ment) and then a full length one like five hours or something with a interval in the middle and a higher charge. those books are so amazing you need to do them justice and if there not going to do that then they don't have the right to make the films.i wish they hadn't made the films because i'd hate to think some one saw them and didn't read the books that would be a tradgedy!
p.s what was with the dementors in h.p.3? they were flying with blankets over there heads! in the book they glide a along the ground and where long cloaks! i mean that is stretching artistic liscence.

[...] Slashfilm is reporting that Warners Brothers has ordered director David Yates to cut the running time of Harry Potter and The Order of Phoenix, so that the film won’t bomb at the box office. Warner Brothers is afraid that its 191 minute running time is too long and it will have a lower box office draw because of how badly Grindhouse performed. The last four Harry Potter films have averaged over 2 and a half hours in length - Chamber of Secrets was over two hours anf fourty minutes. And all four films were box office successes. The biggest films of all time were the longest films of all time. Ten out of the top 15 movies of all time are over two and a half hours long. And three of those films are Harry Potter films. But may-be the studio believes that something has changed. Let’s take a look at last year: Pirates of the Caribbean, The Da Vinci Code, Superman Returns, The Departed, Dreamgirls, Casino Royale - all big box office draws, and all nearing or over the 2.5 hour mark.
I have to agree with the other 2 comments. I would sit and watch that movie the hole time. I was hoping it would be longer, so it would not ruin the book. The Goblet of Fire was to short and to fast to know why the stuff happened as it did, unless you have read that book. The movie should be longer so kids and adults alike can watch the movie and know what is going on, with out having to read the books. But I dont suggest that, the books and audio books are the BEST EVER.

That Warner Bros has asked to shorten HP OOP is madness in itself (if the movie is not AT LEAST 2.5 hous long, the story will be ruined)
That they are asking to shorten it because of Grindhouse is just plain ridicolous. Apples and oranges people!!! I am a huge Tarantino's fan and that was enough to draw me to the theatre on opening night. But Grindhouse is a cult movie about a period in movie history that most people (me included) didn't have any clue about. More than 3 hours for that might have looked a little too much for most.
Harry Potter is a different story altogether: millions of avid readers of the books are literally counting the days before the release of the new movie (I know, my wife and I are amongst them!!). NOTHING will scare us away from the movie!
As a matter of fact I bet more fans would like to see MORE in the movies, and personally I could give hundreds of examples.
Therefore..fret not WB..make a 3 hour movie (better 3.5) and give the fans what they want.
