Surprise, Surprise - Spider-Man 3 is tracking “Through the Roof”. More people are interested in the third installment of the series than either of the two previous films, which are each on the list of top 10 highest grossing films of all time (domestically). Spider-Man made over $821 million worldwide ($403 domestically), but was only released in 3,876 movie theaters. With huge tent-pole films opening in over 4,200 theaters (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Shrek 2), one must assume that Spider-Man will be in line to cross the $1 billion worldwide mark. Spider-Man 3 is going to be huge, you can bet on it.
Update: The latest numbers have the film at 90% awareness and over 20% first choice. DH says the film should surpass $100 million in it’s opening weekend alone. The bad news: The movie is probably the most expensive film ever made (so far) with a budget that tops $300 million (and that’s before the $80+ million in Press and Advertising).

I don’t know if it will clear Titanic, but it is going to do well. That is for sure. There have been tons and tons of marketing dollars poured into this film, so people are going to be very aware of it. I’d say it gets right up there near the $1 billion mark worldwide, but it will halt around the figures that Pirates 2 made last year…
And I am still pissed that they showed Venom in the trailer… I wanted that for a surprise.
