Considering that "Smoking Aces" was a GIGANTIC pile of crap, I think it's safe to say that I really don't care what this man has to say about movies.

Let's get one thing out of the way first: Tarantino is the Madonna of Cinema. He can't hack it himself and has always had someone get his back (Avery and now Rodriguez). He can't even exploit properly. Kill Bills were made by an old man with too much time and money on his hands. The Golden Boy has become one of the Golden Girls. Unfortunately forQuentin, not everyone sees those hack jobs as entertainment which is why they stayed away from them the first time round. Corman's stuff was churned out and not very many of his films were very good but Quentin and his chums sit up all night guffawing at the crappy prints, the awful dialogue and ham-fisted editing. The rest of us aren't as post-modern as QT/RR and the lack of a line round the block is the pay-off. Maybe now the orange Scientologist can step down off the pedestal.

I am a Tarantino/Rodiquez fan. I personally think the film was genius! No one else could have pulled off such a film. We forget, it is supposed to be an exploitation film. I figure it was like Kill Bill/Pulp Fiction/Dusk To Dawn all rolled in one. Unfortunately, I think it just came out at the wrong time of year. Had it come out in the middle of the summer or around the "Horror Movie" time of year (October) it may have done much better. I know for a fact, Tarantino movie fans loved this. I hope they (Taratino/Rodriquez) consider making the "Machete" an actual movie, and not let what some may call "Grindhouse's" supposed
"bombing" stop them from doing what they do best. Making classic "Kung-Fu Theater-type" kick ass movies.

Listen folks, it's pretty f'n simple: Fewer and fewer adults are going out to the movies. Blame this on DVDs... blame it on too many movies or bad movie quality... Whatever. THe facts are, adults are staying at home, while teens can't stand staying at home. So it's no surprise really when an ADULT movie doesn't smash box office records, and some formulaic PG crap does. Seems pretty freakin simple to me.

What is this whole "Americans don't like stuff that's new and original" complaint in order to defend a film promoted on the basis that it's ripping off older, "better" movies? I haven't seen Grindhouse nor Smokin' Aces, so I can't defend or argue against them on the quality of their productions, but just reading about both of them, neither seem the least little bit "original."

All the fanboy websites promote the hell out of these kinds of films, then are staggered when they don't make money. What's not to get? "Most" people don't want to go see these kinds of movies. If the "general public" is sick and tired of aggressively violent films like these, then don't get pissy when nobody goes to see them. 300 looked different enough to be interesting, which is probably why it did well. Grindhouse, not so much.

Grindhouse failed partly because it was a sexist, exploitative movie. Half-naked women dressed up as girl power is a con, and the audiences can see that. Re-hashing this sleaze is neither subversive, innovative or interesting.

Overall I agree with what he's saying because the amount of money that some dumb-assed, crap comedy will make drives me INSANE, but come on... look at the genre/content of "Grindhouse": Hard "R", exploitative, gore-extravaganza, f-bomb-filled movies. Did people expect this to have a wide audience? Plus I always thought that the 3 hour+ running time was WAY too long for this sort of entertainment.

And despite the fact that there are Tarantino defenders out there saying "Death Proof" is better than "Planet Terror", on a pure entertainment basis I think DP fails miserably with it's boring, interminable, vacuous dialog. If these movies are supposed to be anything there supposed to entertain and excite the audience, albeit on a very low-brow level... not BORE them to death.
