Elizabethtown actor Orlando Bloom was spotted discussing roles in the upcoming Superman Returns sequel (tentative title, Superman: The Man of Steel) with director Bryan Singer and producers Mindy and Jon Peters. Bloom’s ex-girlfriend Kate Bosworth played Lois Lane in the first film. So speculation has already begun over Bloom playing the Man of Steel.
But Brandon Routh is already signed on for the sequels, so I somehow doubt (and hope) they don’t replace him with Bloom. I could see the Pirates of the Caribbean star as either Brainiac or General Zod, but why?

NOT LISTENING! NOT LISTENING!

I honestly can’t see it happening, not unless Bloom steps in as the obligatory romantic interest for Lois (assuming Perry White’s nephew gets the boot). Bloom’s too young for General Zod (who should be Jor-El’s age or so). As for Brainiac, he’d be buried under layers of latex, no? In which case, it wouldn’t make sense to give the role to a pretty boy.

I will boycot this movie if he replaces Routh, Routh was a great choice. But I do think having Bloom in the movie in another role could be a good thing. Think about it, this will help bring teen girls into the movie seats for this film.

Blah! I think people have wayyyyyy too much time on their hands. They could have been talking about ANYTHING! The possibility of OB replacing BR is about as likely as me replacing KB as Lois Lane! Get with it, people! Routh absoutely ROCKED the red cape!! He’s not going anywhere. And OB a “pretty boy”? Are you effin kidding me? He needs to be flogged with soap and water! Eww!

Shawna, I hate to say this, but I’m thinking you’re letting Routh’s height and looks cloud your judgment (correct me if I’m wrong, of course). He was ok, just ok, as the Man of Steel. He’s a modestly talented actor and not much else. At times, his line deliveries were flat and unenergetic, which didn’t help an overstuffed, overlong film that should have been tightened considerably.
Singer approached Superman with too much respect or reverence. No one wanted a campy Superman, but we still wanted some humor (and not Superman creepily stalking Lois Lane) or Lex Luthor as a simple thief (he’s a criminal mastermind) and a regurgitated story lifted Superman I. I’m hopeful, though, that the Superman Returns sequel will be an improvement.

Are they ever going to make a smallville movie?

As a matter of fact I would like to see Bloom in the sequel. Hints from the first movie show that Superman has a son, and he has his fathers strength at least. Iwant to see Bloom in the second movie as Superman’s son!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don’t use Orlando Bloom in the movie AT ALL. he isn’t that great. He is a good actor, but not in Superman. One more thing, if he is in the movie don’t make him superman. Brandon Routh makes a fantastic superman. Good Job Brandon.

Do not use Orlando as superman, no way. Brandon Routh was great as superman imo.

Brandon Routh was a bad a bad attempt to substitute Christopher Reeve.
He hardly has Reeve’s build or physical appearance. Though I agree Orlando Bloom would not make such a great Superman I think he is a much superior actor to Routh by all means.
I would niether mind it if Tom Welling was put in Routh’s place however,I think Brian Singer needs to search again for someone who looks much closer to Christopher Reeve.
I think Kerwin Mathews was the closest thing I saw to Christopher Reeve but he’s dead now.

Gerard Christopher would not be a bad choice. He played Superboy in a TV series from 1989 to 1992 I think.

it would be a very boring movie if actors keep changing …..
it is better if the actor from SUPERMAN RETURNS still play the roles of superman rather than havin’ Bloom on the set….
Bon te nan baba taan karao birim ke directors aikanne… tao ea tikiraoi riki ae i actor iai ae WARRENTKEAKI.
e raraba naba …
thanks

That Superman movie $ucked completely and there wasn’t enough of cliff hanger to have people flocking to see a 2nd film. Routh looks the part but I agree with the delivery part, not stellar.
I don’t think Bloom should be Superman but they must be desperate. They need to do something drastic to reinvigorate that franchise.

I think replace B Routh with Tom Welling to avoid any mess. Welling is the best actor alive to play Superman.
Tom should not have been put in smallville as he is too old and his build is much more suited for the Superman.
A younger actor should have been put for SV will Welling should have starred in Superman Returns.
