Perhaps you meant to say, “Everyone in America is either an immigrant or descended from immigrants.” Which is true, even for so-called Native Americans. But all utterly irrelevant to the question at hand, the question of legal presence in this country.

Sadly as you say, it’s happening every day. We have more than enough American citizens driving drunk. No need of foreigners stealing into the country, drunkenly menacing the highways. The problem of drunk driving is exacerbated by lax enforcement of Federal immigration laws and state driving and insurance laws.

The costs of this accident are incalcuable. The tragedy for the Clark family and friends cannot be measured. Who knows what wonderful, new contributions the Clarks could have given our culture? Particularly young Ariel, just starting out. Velazquez-Nava has deprived our society of all that. For decades U.S. and California taxpayers will bear the burden of Velazquez-Nava’s stupidity; as will insurance ratepayers. The costs foisted on us by this single act of drunk driving by this single illegal immigrant outweighs any benefits in importing a wilderness of cheap busboys.

And Anonyma: This is not a story about illegal immigrants. You want a story on illegal immigrants? How about we are ALL immigrants. And no one came here with papers. Who came here first? Pilgrims. They didnt have papers that said they could be there. Native Americans allowed them in and what did we do? We moved them to Reservations. There’s your story. This is a story about drunk driving. People drinking and driving. Its happening everyday. So, what are native americans gonna say when a caucasian is drunk and kills someone of their race? Hector Manuel Velazquez-Nava, a native of Mexico who federal authorities said was in the U.S. illegally, faces possible charges of vehicular manslaughter, driving without a license and driving under the influence of alcohol. He suffered minor injuries in the early Wednesday accident on Pacific Coast Highway and is being held at the Van Nuys Jail. Although bail has been set at $100,000, his undocumented status makes him ineligible for release on bond, police said…Minutes after the director of “A Christmas Story” left his Pacific Palisades condo to drive his son Ariel, 22, home to Santa Monica, their southbound 1997 Infiniti sedan was struck head-on by the northbound 2007 GMC Yukon driven by Velazquez-Nava, said Los Angeles Police Det. Mike Fischer. The high-speed collision left the mangled vehicles about 100 feet apart amid a long trail of debris, including parts of wheels, undercarriages and axles…The Clarks, who were pinned in the wreckage, were pronounced dead at 2:34 a.m…Velazquez-Nava, who was wearing a seat belt, got out of the SUV and was walking around after the collision, Fischer said. His passenger, Lydia Mora, 29, of Azusa, was treated for minor injuries and released. Velazquez-Nava had a blood alcohol level of 0.24 percent, three times the 0.08 legal limit for driving. There was no evidence the Clarks had been drinking, Fischer said. Velazquez-Nava does not have documentation of legal U.S. residency, nor does he appear to have ever had a U.S. driver’s license, Fischer said. The Yukon was registered to Velazquez-Nava, who claimed to have insurance, but police haven’t been able to verify any…Law enforcement sources said Velazquez-Nava pleaded guilty in 2005 in Los Angeles to a prostitution-related charge and was sentenced to two years’ probation. He could face at least four to 10 years imprisonment if convicted of vehicular manslaughter.”

And since when does an objection to racism indicate that one is liberal? I’m not sure where you stand, but that seems like quite a shot to take against conservatives.

So wonderful that this tragic death has given us the opportunity to spot racism and ignorance. I wonder if these people who are so willing so speak up anonomously would be so forthcoming in public.

Why not start telling the people in your lives how you really feel. When everyone knows those who are guided by hate and ignorance, we can adjust accordingly.
