Porky’s and A Christmas Story director Bob Clark and son Ariel were killed in an early morning car accident along a stretch of Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades.
LAPD investigators said Clark was driving a 1997 Infiniti Q-30 sedan southbound on PCH at about 2:20am when the 24 year old driver of a GMC Yukon swerved and hit Clark’s vehicle head-on.
Bob Clark is best known for making A Christmas Story and Porky’s, but he was also responsible for a series of horror/black comedies in the early 1970’s: Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things, Deathdream, and Dead of Night. For the last ten years the once great director has fallen into directing really bad kid movies: Baby Geniuses, The Karate Dog, SuperBabies: Baby Geniuses 2.
A remake of Porky’s is in development by radio shock jock Howard Stern. Clark was also attached to a dark comedy called There Goes the Neighborhood.
24 Hours of A Christmas Story has become a holiday tradition in most homes. I know it has in mine.

The Yukon was registered to Velazquez-Nava, who claimed to have insurance, but police haven’t been able to verify any…Law enforcement sources said Velazquez-Nava pleaded guilty in 2005 in Los Angeles to a prostitution-related charge and was sentenced to two years’ probation. He could face at least four to 10 years imprisonment if convicted of vehicular manslaughter.”

Exactly. And this particular Drunk shouldn’t even be in this country. This particular Drunk had no right Driving on PCH that night without a driver’s license. This particular Drunk had no right Driving that night without insurance. Three laws ignored, two innocents dead. The murders were the last in a chain of laws cavalierly broken. The first being when Senor Velazquez-Nava skittered across the border.
Sadly as you say, it’s happening every day. We have more than enough American citizens driving drunk. No need of foreigners stealing into the country, drunkenly menacing the highways. The problem of drunk driving is exacerbated by lax enforcement of Federal immigration laws and state driving and insurance laws.
The costs of this accident are incalcuable. The tragedy for the Clark family and friends cannot be measured. Who knows what wonderful, new contributions the Clarks could have given our culture? Particularly young Ariel, just starting out. Velazquez-Nava has deprived our society of all that. For decades U.S. and California taxpayers will bear the burden of Velazquez-Nava’s stupidity; as will insurance ratepayers. The costs foisted on us by this single act of drunk driving by this single illegal immigrant outweighs any benefits in importing a wilderness of cheap busboys.

I was born here, so the U.S. Constituion granted me citizenship at birth. I am not here illegally. My ancestors entered the country, not by sneaking in under cover of night, but in the full sight of the law. They applied for and eventually received U.S. citizenship - legally.
