I don't have the problems with Tom Cruise others do, but I honestly can't picture him in a period film, a World War II movie no less. Casting Cruise in a period piece didn't work in The Last Samurai and I can't see it working here. Besides, are they going to turn this into an action/adventure flick or keep it as straight drama?
