300

Well, it has been a few weeks since my last set of predictions. Personal reason have kept me from being able to write lately, but now I am back, and at the right time. I don’t think I would have ever predicted that 300 would make so much money! I was amazed at that. But now, with three new movies opening in wide release, the question becomes, will anything surpass 300? Read on to find out:

1. 300. The answer is no. Even if it only makes 50% of what it made last week, it will still make $35 million. I think it has an excellent chance of holding on to that type of audience, and if it does, nothing else new this week is going to approach that number. The reviews haven’t been great, although it did get Two Thumbs Up. But it has created buzz. There is so much buzz on the news about the different theories about it. The Iranians are upset about it. Some people think it is anti-Bush. Others think that it is pro-Bush. Historians complain about its inaccuracies. The point is that all of that news time is free publicity. Despite lackluster reviews, it will do even better than 50% and make $38 million.

2. I Think I Love My Wife. Chris Rock has a pretty good box office track record. He certainly has been a popular comedian for a long time. This movie looks like it could be good and have the type of laughs that aren’t out there right now (other than Wild Hogs - which has gotten very bad reviews). People looking for something other than action, blood, horror, suspense will be seeking out a reason to laugh and they will find I Think I Love My Wife as it brings in $23 million.

3. Dead Silence. This looks to be the perfect formula for a horror film, as ventriloquist dummies are just naturally frightening. It has had a strong amount of commercials, and should attract a good sized audience as it is the only real horror film out there right now. It starts its box office run with $18 million.

4. Premonition. I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that the producers of Premonition are going to be disappointed by its numbers. It has a chance to be a hit as Sandra Bullock certainly has delivered box office hits in the past, and it looks to be an interesting thriller with plot twists and turns. But my gut is telling me it won’t do that well. There is too much competition for the audience’s money. It makes a decent $12 million.

5. Wild Hogs. Wild Hogs has had a good run so far with $77 million. It will ultimately reach the $100 million mark. It will drop down quite a bit from last week’s total of $27 million because of the competition and its less that good reviews. It will bring in $10 million in its last week in the top 5.

How will I do in my first week back? Time will tell.
