Peter,
Children of Men was an excellent, if disturbing, film. You had to love Michael Caine in the role of Jasper. The film is different than the novel by P.D. James. In this case that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The novel is excellent as well, just different.

I am sure we share some movies that we like. For instance. CHILDREN OF MEN was an adrenalin rush and original
movie. wouldn’t you say?

I rented the DVD of this film over the weekend and now I know I must own it…to watch whenever the spirit moves me. I loved it and can’t stop thinking about it. This affected me the same way “Chicago” did because of it’s beautiful creativity…and ofcourse, the Beatle’s music.

God! Just when you think this movie will fade into oblivion . It gets resuscitated on DVD. I wish they could just put a stake thru the heart of this banal movie like they do to a parasitic vampire that feeds off it’s host (The Beatles) for it’s nourishment. That is what Julie Taymor is doing. Sucking the life force, glamour and brilliance of the BEATLES!

i havent read through all the comments, but i just want to know if this john phoenix guy has actually seen the movie or just thinks it looks stupid… because this is the most amazing movie i have ever seen. its just telling two people’s stories through beatles songs, it doesnt matter who the characters resemble. even though this didnt gross huge numbers in the box office.. just wait for dvd sales.. this movie is for sure a cult classic in the making

id have to say i think that lennon is more shown in jude… he leaves his girlfriend, and falls in love with another girl..whos crazy about peace. John was an amazing artist. if you reallly think about it. Jude is definitely like John Lennon. RIP JOHN! 1940-1980

i bought the soundtrack and ‘hey jude’ is sung by joe anderson.
all the cast sing their own songs, as i was surprised to find out that evan rachel woods can sing.
please go out and buy the soundtrack, its amazing.

John, I never acknowledged your source because I never DOUBTED your source. The problem with this type of discussion is that it doesn’t really matter what the other sources say, any more than it matters what you or I say. Don’t you see? This whole reviewing business (and yes it is a huge business) is ridiculous. For every film, book, record, or other work of art there will be reviews claiming it to be the second coming. Read the blurbs at the front of any paperback. Thrown in with the one or two creditable ones (ie: NY Times, CNN whatever), you will find 10 from such exemplary literary doctrines as the Greenwood Daily Register. Of course, they don’t mention that Greenwood has a population of 350 and the so-called arts editor has 3 teeth and a still in the backyard. Every distributor has a clipping service. I’m sure I don’t have to explain how that works. So, if you want to pursue this argument any further, you will have to do it without me. I’m sure I could find a positive source for every negative source. It doesn’t matter. I will grant you that the movie is not great art. It won’t win any awards. But in a summer that saw not one, but two famiily members pass away a week apart, it took me away for a while, it made me feel good if even for a brief while and for that I was grateful. So, you can stay. I will leave. You win. Do yourself a favor. Quit the arguing, it’s pointless. Give your wife and kids a hug instead and be happy.

Oh ouchie. I thought I was in the big boy room. Yea,
naming a source usually leads one to believe you’re not
talking out your backside and mandatory when having
an intelligent exchange. Despite your arrogance (and
just when I was getting to like you too)your source turned
out to be correct, which is more than you ever gave me
for quoting a source. I still stand by all I’ve said and seriously,
with the exception of the CNN reference you’ve ignored every
point I’ve ever made, drove Peter out with inane logic and tag
teaming with Shayna to run out those who might
disagree with you. If I’m a sad and lonely inividual, than
what does that make my wife and kids? C’mon,I’m sure you
have another vicious insult left inside your “I’m just a humble
joe” body, Bobby! Before I go it really does look as if you two
are the ones taking all this all a bit too seriously.

John, there’s no point pursuing this debate any further. This is a waste of time and I have better things to do as do you (I hope). I will not convince you that the film has any merit and you will not change my opinion. Also, there is no way that I can try and hold an intelligent exchange with someone who must continually resort to childish name calling. Lastly, I have never read the National Enquirer. My source, if you need to know is CNN.com. and the Associated Press. You have heard of them? Since the rules listed for this site do not allow outbound links, you can google search across the universe cnn.com and it should be the first hit. Good night. Oh, and Shayna? Don’t worry about it. This movie is a love story. Yes, it’s a little sappy at times but maybe that’s why John doesn’t get it. He strucks me as a very lonely and sad individual.
