When Spider-Man 2 was released in theaters, Sam Raimi promised a “directors cut” DVD release. Well now we’re finally getting it. Titled Spider-Man 2.1, the movie features 8 minutes of additional footage to nearly 25 scenes. Check out the trailer below.
I know I’m definitely going to pick this one up. Spider-Man 2 is the best comic book movie of all time in my opinion. It will be interesting to see if the additional scenes add or distract from the theatrical release, because it could go either way. I’m actually in the camp that HATES the Donnie Darko directors cut, but LOVES the theatrical release. So you can ruin a good thing.

I’m with you on Donnie Darko. Not sure if I’d call Spider-Man 2 the best comic book adaptation of all time, but Superman II and Batman Begins should be part of any “best” conversation we’re going to have (DareDevil, Ghost Rider, and Hulk definitely shouldn’t be).

I wonder if this cut will justify the cake scene with his landlord’s daughter. While the relationship with the landlord and family offered some comic relief, it always struck me as a bit of an odd tangent. In particular, the flirting (?) between Peter and this girl always struck me as a scrap of plot that was never quite rectified by the film.

I’m torn on this one, I’ll double dip with the best of them … but for only 8 minutes of additional footage? After much internal turmoil I know I will end up getting this .. much like I did for X Men and X Men 1.5. SM2 gives me chills every time I watch it, especially with this web slinging at the very end, the music changes to a somber tone, MJ looking on with uncertainty.

I can explain the cake scene. Although it is hinted that the landlord’s daughter does have a crush on Peter, the real purpose of that scene was probably to show her as a relative stranger in Peter’s life showing kindness to him when no one else would - not even his friends or “family” (Aunt May at this point in the film even rejected Peter after he confessed about Uncle Ben’s death). Peter says at the offer of the cake, “That would be nice” with an almost suprised and thankful delivery, as if kindness and understanding didn’t seem to exist anymore in his life. With no one else to turn to, this act of unexpected kindness may have kept Peter afloat for just that much longer, before he could get a much needed boost in motivation from another talk with his Aunt. Apparently Alvin Sargeant, the screenwriter, will only say in the new commentary that this scene allowed the film to “breathe”, (source: IGN with an advanced review). The scene confused many people, myself included when I first saw it.

Hello, Spider-man fans Kevin here saying yes, i am looking forward to getting Spider-man 2.1 on DVD April 17th 2007. On the 30th everyone, say Happy birthday to Kirsten Dunst she is turning 25 years old I really love her from childhood. I can’t stop picturing those beautiful blue eyes she is such a cutie!!!
As for, Spider-man 3 the movie everyone is waiting for I can’t wait still. Do you guys remember Venom’s son Canage a red and black symbiote. Canage is another one of my favorites I ‘ve got to see him the Spider-man 4. He comes as through Spider-man’s DNA blood in Ultimate Spider-man and in a different story he comes from Venom’s symbiote skin. 2008 get ready for The Dark Knight Batman will battle his arch-nemesis The Joker The Clown prince of Crime, 2009 Superman:The Man of Steel will battle possibly Metallo, Parasite, and Brainiac along with Lex Luthor stilkl wanting to take out Suoes!!! Hulk 2 (2008) The Green Goliath will face The Abomination, Ironman movie Ironman will fight his arch-nemesis Mandarin and Street Fighter returns to the big screen in 2008 M. Hey!!! Dylan This is Kevin I own Spiderman 2.1 DVD Edition and it is better than the cut version of Spiderman 2. There are more extra scenes that was not shown in the cut version. Plus, on the second disc is a teaser trailer of Spiderman 3 the game and the Theatrical movie trailer of Spiderman 3 you’ll love it man.!!!
