Cars

Pixar/Disney are planning a 2-disc special edition release of CARS, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest on Blu-ray. No word on if this will be a Blu-Ray exclusive, but it appears so.

And as much as I hate to say this (especially as a consumer who refuses to buy hundred of dollars in new equipment), I think it’s a great idea.

So far there has been no winner in the HD format war. Judging from the current releases, I don’t think there will be a winner. The studios are not adding any value content to the new releases. What do consumers get for switching over, spending hundreds of dollars on a new player, repurchasing their whole collection? Not much. They get High Definition picture quality, which is great, but isn’t enough. Some releases don’t even feature all the supplemental features of the standard DVD release. May-be the studios are starting to realize, they need to include added value content to win over consumers.

The Cars release is due out in June, according to Digital Bits. Official details should be announced in the next few weeks.

Who knows, may-be this is a good thing?
