Y: The Last Man Movie Update

Y The Last Man

The best series in Comic Books today is Brian K. Vaughan’s Y: The Last Man. A big screen adaptation has been in the works since early 2006. It’s currently set-up at New Line Cinema. Has the project fallen into development hell? Let’s get an update.

Y The Last Man“It’s not in development hell. It’s in development heck,” Vaughan said at the New York Comic Con. “I finished the screenplay a few months ago. Everybody at New Line seemed to like it. For Hollywood, it’s either really fast or it’s really slow, and it’s really slow right now. I’ve done my job and it’s out to directors now and it could be totally out of my control after this.”

Let’s hope someone at New Line realizes what a great film this series could turn into. It’s like Children of Men, but 100 times better.

Y: The Last Man follows  Yorick Brown, a young amateur escape artist, and his Capuchin monkey, Ampersand, the last two men on Earth. Something (speculated to be a plague) simultaneously kills every mammal possessing a Y chromosome - including embryos, fertilized eggs, and even sperm. Society is plunged into chaos as infrastructures collapse and the surviving women everywhere try to cope with the loss of the men. Yorick goes on a mission to find his girlfriend Beth, who was on vacation in Australia.

The Y: The Last Man series will end (as planned) with a double sized issue #60 in January 2008.

Vaughan is also writing a movie version of his WildStorm series ExMachina for New Line: “I just started writing it,” he said. “It’s much hard than Y.”

Hopefully the get someone good to play Y Brown, and while Shia LaBeouf is a decent actor I wouldn't want him to play the role. Mostly because we've already seen enough of him, but if I had to pick between Toper Grace & him I'd pick him. Toper Grace is an annoying ass, the human race would be doomed if he was the last man on earth. Still, it could be a great film if it isn't steamrolled by Hollywood with their mediocre rubber stamp. It wont win any awards, but it could be an excellent cult classic.

Ben, I totally agree, I don't want Shia to play the role, frankly he doesn't fit the bill based on what i've seen, he seems like a kid to me...maybe it's the hair...idk, anywho, topher grace fits the bill better but he's overdone, i wouldn't want to see him in this either... We need someone new, someone who fits the character and someone who's GOOD. I hope the hollywood types make some good decisions about this, I love the series and a bad actor choice would really piss me off.

Shia definitely looks too young for a role like this. I think he could still pass for a teenager. Anyway, I really hope this movie gets made. The series is really addictive.

I really hope that they get this thing going soon. I freaking love these comic books and everyone that i know i have convinced them to read it and they are in love with it too. i think it woud be a great kick ass movies. the only problem i have with Shia LeBeouf is that he doesnt exactally fit the part. I think if they are going to do this film they should find a young new actor. So i agree with you mike! Someone who really looks like Yorik in the commic books. i cant think of any actor i know that remotly looks like him. So in conclusion, hurry this shit up and find a fresh new actor for the part.

I think that Chris Evans would be a good person to play Yorick. He actually looks like what I would picture Yorrick and has that sarcastic attitude that would be perfect.

3 actors who i think can play Yorick:

    Justin Long
    Topher Grace
    Ryan Gosling

They all have Yorick's built and you can easily picture them delivering Yorick's lines.

Shia Lebeouf is obviously made for this role!! Shia is the perfect balance of cocky and dorky...just like Yorick! Just as Shia is always swooning for one particular damsel in distress,Yorick practically spends the entire book longing for Beth. Although in this film Shia is going to have to conjure up some more sexy considering all the ladies hes going to be fighting off.. I can't wait..this is going to be the best film of the year! Shia is the perfect lead

Definitely not Topher Grace, Ryan Gosling or Chris Evans.... If any of these actors were playing Yorick I wouldn't even want to see the film! Shia Lebeouf and Justin Long are definitely a possibility because they both have that fresh sense of humor! The other acts...yawnn

i recently have read Y: the Last Man and it is one of the greatest stories I have ever read. I would not want to see this story on screen if the cast is not placed right. I rather keep the story what I have read the same to me then it being ruined by the lack of it's nature of it's world. I don't think Shia LaBeouf should play Yorick Brown AT ALL. Sorry you all Shia fans out there, but he is not the best for this role. To be honest Topher Grace, Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Justin Long wouldn't be best either. Even though these are very talented actors the are not Yorick Brown. The Best actor I would like to see play Yorick would be Ryan Reynolds. Ryan has Yorick's look in almost every way (face, hair, body, etc) and has his personality and attitude. There is no-one better to play Yorick Brown then Ryan Reynolds. I'm not the biggest fan of Ryan's movies but after reading Y I think Ryan IS the living Breathing Yorick Brown.
