Again… there are lots of things that young AND old find disturbing in life. That’s just the way of things, but part of life is horror films and gothic novels. The movie “Psycho” remains quite disturbing and if it were to be revived, that shot of Janet Leigh hair wet at the curtain would still be there and by now everyone has seen the scene. By the way.. I’ve seen this movie and it’s the tamest thing I’ve seen. Any movie by M. Night Shymalyan will freak you out more than this movie ever could. The ONLY good or decent content provided by this ENTIRE production IS the poster of Elisha Cuthbert with her boob mashed up against the glass while buried in sand and if any Hollywood agents are reading this, such a poster should be featured with Elisha for EVERY film she does from now until she retires from the business. If she does another season of 24.. they should have Keifer Sutherland AND her on a poster buried in sand with Kiefer mashing her boobs up against the glass just for the heck of it!!! Sheezusssss… Oh yeah.. and the liberal lawyer lady.. if you’re tired of dating good looking, successful men and wouldn’t mind hooking up with a fat black loser guy I hope you’ll give me a call at 914 564 4433…

geeeze I understand that the posters are disturbing and yah they shouldn’t be posted around the city letting kids see that because its discusting were desenitizing our kids.. they should use the poster were you only see her eye, that picture isn’t that bad there is no torture being seen. also its so annoying how everyone complains about the movie if u dont like it then don’t go see it. and who cares if elisha decide to do this movie, I’m a huge fan of elisha and i enjoy all films she makes. I’m not saying that it’s right, I mean it is gross to see someone being tortured, exspecally how they protray women these days. I enjoy “some” horror films, not sure about this one.

Actually - I love that idea for marketing purposes. Tell people they can only see the trailers, movie, etc. if they solicit it. Like it’s a big secret. Tell them it’s been banned, only those who look for it and want to see it can, etc. That will turn up the demand for sure.

I think the most idiotic comment I’ve read regarding this subject is someone stating the billboard/trailer should only be shown to people who want to see the movie. How will you know if you want to see the movie if you don’t see a billboard or trailer advertising it?? And how are the movie producers supposed to know who wants to see the movie without advertising to EVERYONE? Maybe they should become psychic? You’re a moron.

I think people are more concerned about how the images effect younger kids, “young adults” not as much. I agree with you - young adults probably see porn on websites. I dont see how simply visiting porn sites translates into any real knowing “about sex and the mistreatment of women”? Anyway - that’s another topic.
My young son (5) had nightmares and couldn’t go to sleep after seeing the After Dark Fest billboard. Other parents tell me about their kids upset by some of the others out there right now. How do you “talk about it” to 2, 3, 4 and 5 year olds who are frightened by the images and don’t have any context for them? Should I have to explain torture to my 5 year old, or that people like watching movies about torture? Anybody have any non-sarcastic examples? Should there be ANY limit at all to what is on public display and to what little kids see?

So it just goes, Mommy I saw a horrible large poster up today and it scared me! oh my poor darling let me hold you tenderly and call the MPAA about this terrible crime committed against my poor young adult, who’s probably knows more about sex and the mistreatment of women from all the free porn sites readily available. Way too many films these days do involve grisly, wrenching scenes. It is
all about the money. Everyone who committs to a violent production will
have life-long effects on themselves and their supporters. Positive/negative
views always follows afterwards. Every director wants to emphasize that they
possess the great power of synopsis value over their counterparts. Saw,
Hostel, The Hills Have Eyes ( just to name a few ) are perfect examples.
Now, we as viewers, can determine which products are good or bad. Quite
simple to figure out. Seriously, billboards which are seen by the viewing
public, should be tasteful enough to gain respect. Very harmful to the
wandering mind. Always think positive thoughts, not negative. Non-human
spirits tend to cling to unhappy and revolting individuals. Do not let them
attempt this possession. They will always lose the supremacy. Everyday is
bad news. Cannot avoid it. Keep writing to city, state, Washington DC
officials to gain trust ( even though it is in serious disarray ). It will pay
off in the long run…

PLEASE NOTE The image shown here on this web page IS NOT the image we have been discussing! - I know that is confusing - The Billboard we’re commenting on is a completely different series of images showing a torture and murder sequence with bloody tubes inserted up a the bandaged victim’s nose.
I don’t know where/if that image is online anywhere.
I totally agree with your comments on the warped standards in the US regarding sexuality vs violence. The SAW ads are horrendous and were designed by the same company that did these billboards.I think you will start hearing more of a “fuss” about this stuff - that this last billboard tipped a lot of people over the edge that were maybe vocal about it between friends but now will take it into the public arena. At least I hope that’s the case.
The Reuters/Hollywood Reporter article by Nicole Sperling also comments on the controversy creating more publicity for the film.

I’m a filmcritic in Belgium. Normally I don’t react on this kind of things but this time it was a little to much to not react. In short: You Americans crack me up everytime! The posters of the SAW-films, HOSTEL and THE HILLS HAVE EYES feature bloody body parts or a man with a powerdrill in his mouth, but nobody made a fuss about that. Now there are some rather lame images of 24’s Elisha Cuthbert and every is whining. Is this because it’s a woman?? It was the same story on a forum that posted the new posters of Hostel PART II - that featured surprise surprise again a women. There was also a lot of talkback of how rude this was and so on. Dear God, when will you’re eye go open? America has one of the most succesfull pornbussines in the world, but when there is a boob on TV Ã la Janet Jackson then everybody does like it is the greatest scandal in the world. There is a famous quote about this kind of hypocritical mentality: “In America you can shoot of a boob in brutal detail, but you can not show a man who is loving and kissing a boob.”

And everytime happens the same thing… Ok the billboards are coming down, but this little movie has received now much more publicity…

I’m about as liberal as Jesus was, I’m a single woman without children and I seem to collect men like they are stamps. So you lame boy with the purported big wang, you have NO basis for personal attacks in a forum that is designed for discussion and debate, not deroagation. I AGREE with the moms you accuse of needing to get laid. It’s more likely that you’ve never been laid at all than that these moms are just angry fat bitches. They are trying to protect their kids from seeing violent images that they shouldn’t see and can’t process or make sense of. They don’t want their kids on the stripper pole or killing small animals for fun. They have every right to protect their children and teach them right from wrong. In a society where they are constantly in combat with a horde of unsavory, unhealthy images that attack every existing moral fiber, that’s commendable. These posters (and the movie) sensationalize a topic, violence against women, that should be publicized, not sensationalized. Kids should be protected from images like these. Take that shit DOWN.

Obiously the last two posts were not by parents. Or if they are, their kids are probably in foster homes right now or should be.
Look, noone is telling you guys you can’t have your precious “boobies” and violencef ilms to beat off to - God knnows it may be the only social life you have -just get it the hell out of my kids face on a public boulevard!
I agree that the angelyne billboard and many others were annoying but is wasn’t SNUFF.
Again the billboard we’ve been addressing is not pictured above it was a 4-part image.
The post calling him/herself “God” says - “Aren’t you an adult?” the answer is, HELLO! there are kids out there riding around in cars not just adults. Venice blvd is not your personal NC-17 playground, fool.
Think back to when you were 4 or 5- What did you see - what was done to you? No kid’s life is perfect and most people live through all kinds of weirdness and trauma, -but do we really need to add to it with these Horror ads?
Regarding Edward who says, “You canâ€™t â€œloseâ€ a right youâ€™ve never had.” You are probably right about that, but i’m interested in what “Legally Offensive” means.

Sheeezussss… I just read about this today. Those posters look HOT and the
it looks like this is going to put crap like the SAW movies to shame. Who
cares about roomfuls of doofy jerks. The point is that HOT girl with that
HOT body and what she has to go through to get out. That’s good horror
and I can’t believe all these prudes here! Didn’t L.A. have some giant
billboard with that HIDEOUSLY frightening ANGELYNE up there for decades?
Now THAT’S an image of the seedy side of Hollywood I wouldn’t want my
kids to see. As for Elisha Cuthbert… this and Girl Next Door are the ONLY
kind of films she SHOULD be doing with the occasional folksy homespun
family film for the prudes to watch between Mel Gibson’s Passion of the
Christ V: Pontius Goes to Hell sequels. Leave the good stuff for the rest
of us. And make NO mistake…. movie posters with Elisha’s MAGNANIMOUS boobs mashed up against the window of a giant sand filled tank is GOOD\ STUFF!!! Hallelujah! You got a PROBLEM with that? Call me at 914 564 4433!
