Have no fear, Underdog is here. The first teaser trailer that is.
The teaser is an obvious parody of Superman (which seems to be the movie of choice now-a-days - The Simpsons Movie). I’ve been very unsure about this project from the beginning. The two things that are keeping my interest are Jason Lee (who voices Underdog) and Academy Award nominee Amy Adams (for Junebug, if you haven’t seen it - go rent it now). I’m still not sure about the concept of using a realistic computer animated dog as Underdog.
The movie is (of course) a live-action feature adaptation of the original 1960’s television cartoon. The movie follows the adventures of a humble no frills dog named Shoeshine Boy who became the superheroic Underdog. Adopted by a 12-year-old boy, Underdog uses his super powers to protect “his love, Polly Purebred, and the citizens of Capitol City from the evil Simon Bar Sinister.”
Underdog hits theaters on August 3rd 2007.

A live-action Underdog? No thanks. That’s a travesty and a mockery, an insult to anyone who, as small children, watched and enjoyed the crude cartoon version (yes, that would be me). Underdog should have been straight animation, 2D or a mix of 2D and CGI. I dug the Superman spoof, though.
