The Joel Schumacher film starring Jim Carrey hits theaters at the end of the month. In the movie Walter Sparrow (Jim Carrey) finds a book that seems to be based on his life. While reading the book, he comes across details of a murder that hasn’t YET happened; and as a consequence, he becomes obsessed with the number 23 and its ambiguous involvement with the murder. So why is the number 23 so mysterious? We have 23 reasons after the jump.

I think that you can pretty much take anything and get the number 23 from it. People need something better to do and realize that its just chance. So what if Charles Manson was born 11/12. Many, many other people were born on that day as well and Kurt Cobain was nothing but a depressed junkie who couldnt hack it in the real world, so like a coward, killed himself. We all need to stop glorifying his death like he was somekind of wounded, misunderstood soul and see him for what he really is. And as far as using the dates to add up to the number 23, somethings the first number is used as a whole number and somethings it isnt, as they are added together instead. We need consistency to prove the real connection between the number 23 and these dates. However, it should be a pretty good movie anyway

yeah I am kinda looking foward to this movie, I am a huge Jim Carrey fan. Here is the problem I am having…Dont you think they planned for this movie to come out on the 23rd of Feb? Oh come on people. It’s a freaking movie, they wanted to have a basis for it. It seems like pretty good idea. People need to calm down and just relax, It’s a movie you’re not going to die from a movie. There was no mass mishaps when The Omen came out… 6-6-06.. so relax. It’s a movie, you’ll be fine, just go watch it with your friends and enjoy the creators and actors creativity.

Like Brandi said above, this can be done for any number. Like if I wanted to, I could think of multiple things for, say, the number 7. But I have a feeling that that is the point. The movie makers are trying to show the effects of irrational hysteria, and what happens when people can’t realize that it is just a coincidence, and what happens when people try to find a deeper meaning to everything.

Well I’ve seen the film, and yeah, I think that it was a good film, the plot has a great basis but to be honest, I think that the film could of been done little better…
As soon as I heard the plot, I had to see it, but I was a little dissapointed with the way it turns out, (I wont give everything away)
apart from that it was an okay film.
I think that to be honest most of the things mentioned like the chromosones etc, could of been made up for any number…
By the way…
Kurt Cobain is one of the biggest icons ever to walk this planet!
I love the way one of my idols were brought into the film, that made me feel great to be a part of the movie in some way.

The thing about all this adding up crap is, it’s not even being done correctly in regards to proper numerology. Basic numerology is every number breaks down to a 1 digit number. So, 23 breaks down to 5, so that if you want a spooked out number (haha), it should be 5. The numbers 11 and 22 are not supposed to be broken down in numerology, too long to describe here what the belief is. So for example, the WWII reference would be as follows:
11/1/1939
11+1+1+9+3+9= 34
3+4=7
Guess that kind of tears up the lucky 7, eh?
And the JFK killed date:
11/22/63
11+22+1+9+6+3= 52
5+2=7
OMG!! Two bad things happened on a lucky number 7 day!! Goes to show, you can read whatever you want into whatever you want to make it do whatever you want.

INTRODUCTION

Although the system includes all the 10 digits, it revolves around the numbers “23”, “2 and 3”, “1 and 9” and the number “5” which is the foundation of the entire system, the Law of Fives. The number “One” being unity the Creator, the one God and the source of all numbers. The number “Two” being division, male and female, day and night and Wisdom in Hebrew esoteric philosophy. The number “Three” being the Holy Trinity, the essence of all things, for time consist of past, present and future, male and female are made of spirit, soul and body, space is defines by height width and depth. Are you familiar with the mystical relationship of the number 23?. In the year 1994 which when added together equals 23, there are quite a few occurrences of this number related to world events:

I have been observing this rather subtle phenomenon for years. I believe it has to do with the biblical prophecy of the second coming. In Egyptian esoteric numerology the 2 + 3 or 5 is the sign of the return of the Great Initiate or Messiah. In Hebrew mysticism (Kaballah), the 2 is the Wisdom and the 3 is the Understanding of The Most High. I have been able to, with the grace of The Most High, peek behind the veil and find the numbers 1 9 2 3 re-occurring in world events.
I went through a spiritual rebirth on March 23, 1991, and from that point on I could see this sacred number 23 behind world events as well as my life. I shall offer you more………………..
In the movie PROPHECY starring Christopher Walken, it tells of a second war in Heaven as transcribed in an ancient bible in the 23rd chapter of Revelations what’s wrong with this picture…..there are only 22 chapters, or so we think..

when numbers are involved! Let me clarify your stupidities here.
23 as a number is about as mysterious and intriguing as the toast I had for
breakfast this morning. Obviously no one has ever heard of the placebo effect
before. When someone tells you that 23 is the solution to every number pattern
in existence, the first thing you’re gonna do is look for ways to get 23 out any set of numbers you see, no matter how absurd and bizarre your methods are! For example, look at these numbers below:

Now what’s the first thing you’d do? You’d try to prove your dumbass “23 enigma”
theory right! I bet you’d do something close to this:
4+6=10, 10+13=23! (Oh my god!) Wait there’s more!
5=2+3 (Big phukking whoop!)
You might be thinking to yourself, “See, I’m right Charlie and you’re wrong!”
But you obviously made those additions based on the fact that you were looking for a 23! Now if you were looking for, say a 9, you’d obviously try to add the numbers a different way! See, you can get 23 out of anything! But you can also get a 7, or an 18, or a 30, or a 67…! Understand what I’m saying? You train your own mind to look for the fucking number 23, not even caring that you can get about 500 other numbers with a little creativity!
My point is, 23 is a number, and that’s that. No, it’s not haunted, it’s not possessed. Nobody’s going to come to your house on your 23rd birthday at 5:23 in the morning holding 23 butcher knives with 23 blood stains on his jacket, breaking all 23 doors in your house, and shattering a window into 23 fucking pieces!

the biggest scare of the night however..was when i got to my house.
i turn on the tv. and it says “Volume: 23″ at the top in big red letter.
This whole night has kind of made me look at things in a different way. And after reading this entire page of comments i beleive there is **Possibly** more out there than can be explained by logic or science.
one last thought. The movie was good, worth seeing if your even the slightest bit curious, you won’t be let down. Thoe there were quite a few contridictions and things that really didnt make sense it was nice.

to be honest. I once believed in stuff like that. It can drive you totally crazy. You can’t think of how many “Illuminati” signs I have seen everyday. To watch this movie was fun. It told me how it could end if you don’t put yourself out of this circle. There are only three things in my life I can think of to scare me:
1. I always look at the clock at 17.09 (=5:9pm) my bday
2. Charles Manson is connected with Nr. 23 (I have to do a presentation about this case in my Law course)
3. An other professor told me in our class that the “Artifact” we have to look for for our analysis will find us. You remember: “I’ve found the book. Or did it find me.”

I personally have an open mind to it and here’s why. All the people that condone it and say it’s just a number and you can make the number 23 up, think about this. What about superstition? Do you believe in THAT TOO? Now most people who DO BELIEVE in superstition, don’t like the number 13. Is the number 13 just a number or is it unlucky, and why? I’ve noticed in my travels that the number 13 appears to be a curse too. Next time you’re in a high rise building going up in an elevator, take a glance at the floor numbers. IS there a floor #13? and IF NOT, WHY NOT? HEY….13 is just another f-in number! WOW, that’s not strange one bit. Probably nothing associated with that other than all the f-in people who built the elevator and the buildings are all nothing but crazy MF-ers. So although all you doubters doubt the number 23, what about the number 13?
Now there is the number 3 too that has both superstitious and evil ties to it. the number 3 alone can be considered unlucky by some people, while it is part of the number 23 as well. Who would have thought that this number 23 would be so fascinating? I’m a type of person that keeps an open mind as well. Could be that certain things are associated with the number 23, who knows? Some people believe in life on other planets, aliens, things like that. Should I sit here and tell people that there is no life on other palnets and everyone is full of sh*t if they believe in that? Or better yet, that aliens are something that Hollywood created to play with your emotions? There are no such things as UFO’s, Aliens, Miracles, and other things that are unexplainable?
For those of you reading this and have closed minds, how do you explain miracles, strange phenominons, Karma, destiny, fate, coincidences, and other unexplainable things? Or don’t you believe in them? Miracles happen although they are unexplainable too. Maybe I should state that miracles are ficticious and don’t happen. I at least have an open mind to this 23 phemoninon. The people that doubt it just being a number probably don’t believe in miracles, spirits, life on other planets, or things that happen that you can’t explain.
I mean lets look at the pentagram symbol. Probably just a symbol that some lame ass associated with the devil and has no real meaning behind it what so ever. For those doubting people, try wearing it around your neck for some good luck sometime, other than the traditional horse shoe or rabbits foot. No form of object can bring anybody good luck whether it is a symbol or a number, right?

In this world there are numerous things that us humans can’t explain. Events that happen that you can try to explain, but can’t. Superstitious things like not walking under a ladder, breaking a mirror, a black cat crossing your path, etc…
Bottom line is that yes there are certain things that happen concerning the number 23. NOT all of them bad, but most of them are when you break it down and look at the facts. Just like things that you can’t explain in this world, you take in to consideration facts whether they are true or not. I mean if you were in your house and saw a chair suddenly move from time to time within a certain time period, what would you do to make someone believe you were telling the truth and not have them say that you are just full of crap and made the whole thing up? you would document it somehow based on facts. Now think about that.

I first became obsessed with the number 23 when I was 15-16. It was just a lucky number for my friends and I because it ALWAYS used to occur before weird stuff happened to us for example once a 23 bus went past and then out of nowhere a drunken hairdresser ran up and squirted us with toothpaste, I have HUNDREDS of odd incidents like that…it’s always just been an in joke with my small crew of mates from my home town…but then I discovered all these things about it (the chromosome thing, etc.) and as a result it’s on the end of my Dj nickname. I don’t believe it’s anything more than a pattern in the chaos that I choose to see…for some people it’s 7, for others 13…whatever, my point is although people have always laughed at my eccentric little obssesion it’s just a talisman for me and as much as one can heap scorn upon that it’s no different, to my mind, than believing in God. Unfortunately now if I ever mention it to anyone ever again they’ll go “oh! like the Jim Carey movie?” DAMMIT!

lol, one of my calculator has gt 22 buttons, i pressed 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9=45 45-22=23
my other calculator has got 40 buttons, i pressed 1×2x3×4x5×6x7×8x9=362880 divided by 40= 9072
9+(7×2)=23 or from 362880, 3+6+2+8+8+0=27 40=4+0=4

Also we know we are not the center of the universe, I am sure there are more powerful creatures out there then us but, for the most part, America is the most powerful country on the planet and tons of people in America have the internet so, as is to be expected, there are more things from an American’s point of view and info an America would now.

well.. I’m not agreeing that the number has any sort of power but I do think that it has made some sort of imp[act on the world and maybe thats the power. It just makes us think and look for something that might not even be there. So power or not you can decide. Umm… and just to throw out some stories on why I thought the number was kinda freaky before the movie came out.. 23 became my favorite number when I was 5( or atleast thats as far back as i can remember) 2+3=5, My dog ran away when I was reading about numerology and I reached a part about 23 and when i got home after finding my dog the time on the clock read 8:50 which equals 13 and right next to the clock my thermostat read 73, 8+5+7+3= 23, my best friends birthday happens to be 2/3, his jersey number is 23, and i didnt know this till we became friends. so i thought that was pretty interesting :P

I just got done watching The Number 23 and my mom was doing a crossword puzzle. She said there was a question about an Actor. The Actors name was Jim Carrey. The question number was 48. 4 times 8 is 32. Which is 23 backwards! CREEEEEPPPPY!!!!

I am still waiting for someone to prove that with a number higher then 23 that you can find as many or more interesting patterns like you can with 23. Of coarse the basis of the agruement against 23 is that with any number you can find all sorts of interesting patterns so obviously you have to start from the ground up — meaning that you ahve to pick a number and stick with it and not start with 52, find no pattern, do a goodle search for 48, again find no pattern, then finally find 3 or 4 weird facts about 26 and say that you proved their is nothing odd about 23.
I will be interested to find what someone can show. And obviously the number must be above 23 or at least double digits (without the same number twice such as 11, 22, 33, ect.). This is because in life your more likely to find individual numbers digits then double digits.

I just got done watching the number. It intrigued me massively.
All the while i was watching i was thinking of everything to do with the number twenty three, which scares me now because i am surrounded by it. A number or not it is still eery.
Every time i paused the movie,
unknowingly the numbers added up to twenty three.
I looked at the clock at 11:12 and 12:11
Which also scared me.
It had slot 5 in my dvd player,

i’m sick of people telling others to get lives. I mean its just fun to look for all the cooky 23 things out there. its really very interesting to see how all these things can relate back.
i loved this movie so much. it was truely riveting. even if all the 23 stuff is just coincidence, its still really cool.
p.s. after the movie i realized my bracelet had 23 links, the time was 10:13 (10+13=23) i watched it with my bf at the time and the letters of his name with all his siblings letters of names added up to 23. so did their birthdays. the date was august 15…8+15=23

Start doing some little calculations about you,and the properties that you’ve been made of..in general. Add or subtract them,that is to say,calculate and SEE for yourself the result,and afterwards you may see if you can still fool around and make fun of this DANGEROUS Number (The Number 23,I mean.)

The movie, in general, raise heated debate about coincidence and obbsession. Apart from poor arrangement and acting, the idea and phylosophy of the movie was quite interesting. I myself faced this kind of obsession several time, and I find a piece of myself watching the it. What’s more? The movie wanna send a message to all of you out there that people’s mind is not as strong as you think, so just take everything easy, and enjoy every moment of your life with your loved ones.
