Nothing bothers me more than a movie studio ruining my childhood favorites with direct to DVD sequels. Don’t get me wrong, I can understand the market of a Wild Things 3, Dukes of Hazard 2 or even American Pie series spin-offs. But when the studios decide to sequelize good movies purely for home video profit, It makes me very angry.
Late last year it was announced that MGM would be making a sequel to the cult hacker hit War Games, now the studios are aiming for the big guns. Now apparently Warner Bros is considering making making a Gremlins 3 and The Goonies 2 through their direct-to-dvd division.
“The talk has been going on for quite some time,” a WB source told Moviehole. “I think that’s all it is at the moment. Talk. I know __________ has a pretty full slate over at Premiere – they’re looking at doing direct to video sequels to Scooby Doo and The Goonies, and as you mentioned, Premiere are soon to start production on The Lost Boys 2 and New Jack City 2 – so won’t be in any rush.”
The source further speculates that the film would utilize CGI rather than puppetry, which I don’t think is a huge negative. We do need to grow with the times. But it becomes a huge issue with these Home Video movies where the budget is servilely lacking in the first place, never-mind the addition of computer fx and animation.
Richard Donner and crew have been trying to get The Goonies 2 (sometimes titled The Goonies or Gonnies Never Say Die) off the ground for decades now. Spielberg has said to be against the idea, which is probably why it has never happened. But to think that Spielberg would waste this type of opportunity on home video is sickening.
What do you guys think?

This would really make me angry as well. They would be complete idiots to release goonies or Gremlins to Dvd. Do they NOT want a HUGE blockbuster? What about loss in merchandising sales?
I want my Gremlins done right!!!
If its direct to DVD I’ll pirate a copy (can’t give them money for such a travesty) and mail it to WB with a big F and a big U on the front.

goonies 2? Are they stupid? :(
I was upset about The Lost Boys 2, but it’s gotten worse.
I like Corey Feldman though.
I’ll waste my money buying it anyway.

What the heck. Why would they put the Gremlins 3 strait to Dvd. i mean it was one of the best movies warner brothers made and my absolute favorite as well. many fans probably will be ticked about the goonies 2 as well.

I can see them doing a Gremlins 3, but as much as I’d like to see a Goonies 2, I don’t think it will ever materialize. The kids would all be in their late 30’s to 40’s by now. They’d have to put in a good deal of silly to counter that. And throw in some new kids. Have them all go on the adventure together and don’t leave the comedy just to the kids. Otherwise it’s barely a sequel. The original cast would have to be in the spotlight and getting the laughs. But a previous poster says Speilberg is against it. It’s a pity. A sequel wouldn’t detract from the original, even if it wasn’t done as well. It just seems like something that would be great but will never happen. Still…when I saw the title being passed aroundfor the first time (about 15 minutes ago) “Never Say Die”, it really appealed to that part of me that never grows up. Someone should do it. But do it well.

There will be alot more people able to enjoy it if the movie goes to DVD. Movie theater prices are way to expensive. almost $50. for my kids myself & husband. We have been able to go 1 time in 5 years. I have a family, pay gas, buy food. I loved the goonies & after showing it to my kids they did to, but my kids come first & sadly we would have to wait months and months after it goes to the theater to see it.
The goonies was my favorite movie as a child & when my son & daughter were old enough to enjoy a movie I showed it to them. they love it. I remember it being the only movie at the time that I could watch all the way threw and not get bored or wish a part would have been left out. My favorite actor was Corey “mouth”. I am now 31 and still enjoy watching the Goonies with my kids. I waited my entire childhood for another one or another movie to even come close. The adventure, comedy, suspense, drama, & not too romantic as most shows are today. The closeness of the friends was perfect. I wanted to be apart of that adventure knowing it was only a movie just made me want to see more another even a series on TV that would have shorter adventures so I could watch everyday after school or atleast once a week. But none came. Now I hear that the movie could have a sequel and no one will do it upsets me. So I wanted to voice my opinion whether it matters or not. On a parenting note, I do not let my kids spend more than 2 hours a night after school watching TV & most of the time they read instead. I know they would watch a part 2 if it were out. Another note, The lost boys 2 took way to long to come out too. I waited for that, but I can not let my kids watch very much due to the sexual content. The original was more for the teenagers the kids and this one was for the mature audience. So my kids will have to wait a while longer to enjoy that one, maybe (hopefully) if a 3rd comes out it will be more about the vampires and not the romantics (to put it nicely) So, please if a 2nd Goonies does make it, remember how much the kids enjoyed it and do make it about the kids. So what if it mimics the 1st in ways, it is the Goonies whether the first or the second. I want my kids to have that 1 movie that came out while they were kids that they want to share with their kids. My son is 12 & daughter is 8 so hopefully the producers will hurry up and make it.
Oh, and if it is possible to bring the cast back as I have read they might as the parents ***that would be PERFECT***** It couldn’t be more perfect. As I read they were planned to be the parents of the kids that are now to take on the role of the Goonies. What I would like to see is, that the kids go out on an adventure like the first set did but without letting the parents know & since the parents, were Goonies they would go after them falling in to traps(boobie traps) as their kids do having to solve the mystery. That would make my day! That would be….well, I have imagined many stories growing up about the Goonies and their adventures, because there wasn’t one to see or read about.
Hopefully that will change.
Thanks for allowing posts.
