Golden Globes Stage

The Golden Globes are tonight. We were going to write up a preview but came across the Vegas odds for tonight’s winners and losers. And that turns out to be a whole lot more interesting than anything we have to say.

Looks like it will probably be a great night for Borat and The Departed.

As it turns out, Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat) is the odds on favorite to take the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical  with 1 to 7 odds, followed by Johnny Depp for Pirates of the Carribbean: Dead Man’s Chest at 3 to 1.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical: Meryl Streep (The Devil Wears Prada) has 1 to 11 odds, followed by Toni Collette (Little Miss Sunshine) at 7 to 2.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama: Helen Mirren (The Queen) is the favorite with 1 to 18 odds, followed by Penelope Cruz (Volver) at 7 to 1.

Best Director: Martin Scorsese (The Departed) with 1 to 8 odds, followed by Clint Eastwood (Letters from Iwo Jima) at 5 to 1. It is more than likely that Eastwood won’t win for Flags of our Fathers which is a longshot at 19 to 1.

Best Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical: Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan with 1 to 4 odds, followed closely by Dreamgirls at 5 to 1. Thank You For Smoking won’t be seeing any love with a horrible 35 to 1.

Best Motion Picture - Drama:
The Departed with 1 to 4 odds, followed by Babel at 9 to 5. As much as I loved Babel, I’d be shocked if that won out over Departed.
